Procedure 7-2 To configure a discovery rule 1 Choose AdministrationDiscovery Manager from


the 5620 SAM main menu. The Discovery Manager form opens with the Discovery Rules tab
displayed. 2 Click Create. The Create Discovery Rule - Specify General Attributes step form opens.
3 Configure the parameters. 4 Select a topology group. 5 Configure the Discovery Protocol
parameter to SNMP for WDM devices and TL1 for OCS devices. 6 Click Next. The Create Discovery
Rule - Add Rule Elements form opens. 7 Click Create to add a new rule element. The Topology
Discovery Rule Element (Create) form opens. 8 Configure the required parameters and click OK. 9
Repeat steps 7 to 8 to create an additional rule element, if required. 10 Click Next. The Add Auto
Discovery Rule Elements ACL form opens. 11 Click Create. The Auto Discovery Rule Element ACL
(Create) form opens. 12 Configure the parameters and click OK. 13 Repeat steps 11 to 12 to create
an additional automatic discovery rule element, if required. 14 Click Next. The Create Discovery
Rule - Configure Mediation Security form opens. 15 Select the mediation security policy in the
following panels, if required. Read Access Mediation Policy Write Access Mediation Policy
Trap Access Mediation Policy Note When you close the Discovery Manager form, the 5620 SAM
scans the network using the discovery rule, if the Administrative State parameter of the discovery
rule is set to Up. Note If the selected topology group reaches the maximum element limit, any
additional discovered NEs are automatically added to the Discovered NEs group. Note The OCS
NE mediation requires only the Read Access Mediat
Procedure 7-3 To configure a user account on an 1830 PSS device 1 Choose
AdministrationSecurityNE User Configuration from the 5620 SAM main menu. The NE User
Configuration form opens. 2 Click Create. The NE User Global Policy (Create) form opens. 3
Perform one of the following: a Configure the parameters for SNMPv2 (Console) user. b Configure
the parameters for SNMPv3 user. 4 Configure the authentication parameters if you have SNMPv3
permissions. i Click on the SNMPv3 tab. ii Configure the parameters. iii Click OK. 5 Click Apply to
save the changes and close the form. You must distribute the users to specific devices, as
described in Procedure 7-4. Note When you close the Discovery Manager form, the 5620 SAM
scans the network using the discovery rule, if the Administrative State parameter of the discovery
rule is set to Up. Note The 1830 PSS supports only MD5 for the Authentication Protocol

PSS devices 1 Create the user as described in Procedure 7-3. 2 Choose
AdministrationSecurityNE User Configuration. The NE User Configuration form opens. 3
Choose a user and click Properties. The NE User - Global Policy (Edit) form opens. 4 When the
Configuration Mode parameter is Draft, the Distribute button or the Distribute option under the
More Actions button, is disabled and the policy cannot be distributed to the 1830 PSS devices. You
must first release the policy for distribution. If the Configuration Mode parameter is Released, go
to step 5. i Click Switch Mode and a dialog box appears. ii Click Yes and the configuration mode of
the policy is changed to Released. The Release - SR Local User form opens with a list of available
nodes. iii Go to step 6. 5 Click Distribute. The Distribute - SR Local User form opens. 6 Choose the
1830 PSS devices from the Available Nodes list and click on the right arrow icon. The devices move
to the Selected Nodes list on the right side of the form. 7 Click Distribute. The policy is distributed
to the devices. 8 Close the Distribute - SR Local User form. The NE User - Global Policy (Edit) form
reappears. 9 Configure the distribution mode of the local definitions. i Click Distribution Mode. The
Distribution Mode - SR Local User form opens. ii Configure the Distribution Mode parameter. The
local definitions that are configured with the specified distribution mode are listed. iii Choose one
ore more rows from the Available Nodes list. iv Click on the right arrow icon. The devices move to

distribution mode of the specified devices. vi Close the Distribution Mode - SR Local User form.
The NE User - Global (Edit) form reappears. 10 Close the forms. Procedure 7-5 To configure local or
global 1830 PSS user 1 Choose AdministrationSecurityNE User Configuration. The NE User
Configuration form opens. 2 Choose an entry and click Properties. The NE User Global Policy (Edit)
form opens with the General tab displayed. 3 Perform one of the following: a Configure the global
user. i Configure the parameters on the General tab. ii Click on the SNMPv3 tab for SNMPv3 users.
iii Configure the parameters. iv Distribute the user account policy to specific devices. See
Procedure 7-4. b To modify local user definitions, perform the following: i Click on the Local
Definitions tab. The 1830 PSS users are listed. ii Choose an entry and click Properties. The NE User
Local Policy (Edit) form opens. iii Click Switch to change the Distribution Mode parameter to Local
Edit Only. iv Configure the parameters. v Click on the SNMPv3 tab for SNMPv3 users. Note The
SNMPv3 users cannot be distributed on 1830 PSS devices discovered using SNMPv2. Release 12.0
