My Political Party

While researching and observing the different point of views of both of the major and

many minor parties in the United States, I arrived to the conclusion that I will register with the

Democratic Party. Though I agreed with different of beliefs from an array of parties, the

Democratic Partys views aligned with mine more often than not, and since my whole family are

supporters of the party, it made it easier for me to identify with this party. In this paper, I will be

discussing three beliefs that the party and I share, which include views on gun control,

immigration, and education.

The topic of gun control in the United States is very controversial with views that array

from regulating firearms to protecting ones right to bear arms via the Second Amendment. The

Democratic Party argues that gun control must be preserved so that firearms are not able to be in

the hands of those who are irresponsible. The party wishes to add more background checks and

psychological testing to make sure that Firearms are in the right hands. In my opinion this needs

to happen because in our country we have the most gun deaths per capita in the world and this is

because we do not have strict regulations on gun control. Though the Republican Party believes

that creating stricter gun laws will not help lower than the number of gun deaths in the country, a

recent study by the Harvard School of Public Healths Injury Control Research Center shows a

correlation that the country with more guns will result with more gun deaths and the United
States is first in the list. The Second Amendment gives one the right to bear arms but regulations

must be stricter and the Democratic Party will continue to pursue this goal of limiting this

amendment to protect lives and overall, make the country safer.

With President Trump's election, there has been many changes to immigration that go

against and challenge the views that Democrats have on this topic. The Democratic Party

believes that immigrants shape the country and every immigrant, legal or illegal, should be given

a path to citizenship in the United States. They also want to reform the current immigration laws

as they do not reflect U.S. values in their opinion. Coming from a family of immigrants, I believe

that immigrants who are honest, hard-working, and follow the law should be given the

opportunity to gain citizenship. President Obama's passed DACA (Deferred Action for

Childhood Arrivals) in 2012 and this allowed certain immigrants the ability to gain a work

permit and study in the country and I believe this was a step in the right direction as it allows

these people who were brought from an early age to his country an opportunity to be successful.

Though President Obama's immigration policy affected many lives a positive way, President

Trump's immigration policy is doing quite the opposite by taking away DACA and planning to

build a wall in the border of Mexico to limit immigration. I do not believe this is the right step

because immigrants shape our country and it is negatively affecting more lives but then

positively. Instead, the immigration policy should follow that of the Democratic Party as it

protects immigrants and can allow them to acquire citizenship.

The education system United States is in the middle of an education crisis as there are

many views on how education should be runned. Democrats believe that education system

should be developed to become more modern for the student and that college should be more

affordable to students. I agree with this view because college tuition is becoming more and more
difficult for students to afford and is important that more money is being used to help them

afford and participate in learning in college. Democrats also believe that pursuing higher

education is necessary to be successful in modern times. An example of this ideal is my sister

and how she used financial aid for the past four years to attend college and she just graduated

and now she has a full-time job and this is because of the higher education she pursued and the

college tuition that she was able to apply for. If more students students can apply and be granted

financial aid then more students will be able to pursue a higher education like my sister did.

The Democratic party believes that gun control should be restricted, immigrants should

be given the opportunity to acquire citizenship, and education should be more affordable for

students to achieve higher education, and these views align with my personal beliefs and this is

the reason why I decided to identify with the party.
