Ethical dilemmas faced in India since last 5 years and matching them to the lessons learnt:

1) Sahara India Pariwar was involved in illegal and fraudulent money collection from its investors,
which led to the arresting of groups founder Subrata Roy in 2014. SEBI alleged that Sahara India
Real Estate Corp Ltd (SIRECL) and Sahara Housing Investment Corp Ltd (SHICL), which issued
Optional Fully Convertible Debentures (OFCD), illegally collected investor money. Both SEBI and
Sahara group have been fighting a legal battle ever since.
Learning:
The learning from the case Dieselgate: Catching Dirty Fish in Murky Waters can be applied here
- Unethical means should not be used to achieve unrealistic goals set by companies.
As seen in this above example, not following ethical practices resulted in fall of the Sahara
Group.

2) The Saradha Group scam of 2013 saw a whopping 1.7 million investors of a Ponzi scheme lose
approximately USD 5 billion when the scheme dwindled. Negligence on part of the ever-
powerful politicians of West Bengal, regulatory bodies etc. led to the scheme staying alive and
undetected for so long.

Learning:
The learning from the case Dieselgate: Catching Dirty Fish in Murky Waters can be applied
here. If Administrative systems had been put in place to check upon the procedures followed in
organisation, then the above failure wouldnt have happened.

3) Infosys levied a fine of Rs.5 lakhs on its CEO, Kris Gopalakrishnan for a technical violation of its
insider trading rules. This fine was in the form of donating Rs.5 lakhs to a charitable
organization.

Learning:
The learning Stating the values in which a company believes is necessary. It creates a path for
the employees and future managers to follow. from the case The Hewlett Packard e-Health
Centre can be applied for the above example.

4) Cow vigilantism and increasing intolerance.

Learning:
The learning Diverse interest groups must be brought together to solve problems existing in the
society which is derived from the case The Pune Power Model can be applied for the above
issue faced in India.
