[ Home ] [ Up ] [ Seen Any Good Cosmodynes Lately? ] [ Cosmodynes - Background ] [ Using Cosmodynes to Understand Relationships ]
If you haven't read the first two articles in my cosmodyne series (article 1 and article 2),
please consider reading them first. They will give you the background you need on
cosmodynes in order to better utilize the information presented here.
Have you ever seen two charts displayed together in a bi-wheel and thought about
having a quick way to gauge the compatibility between the two people represented? I will
try to enlighten you on a technique that just might be able to help you. The technique I
want to share with you is DUAL COSMODYNES.
I have taken the basic principles behind cosmodynes and developed my own system of
relationship analysis called dual cosmodynes. To make a long story short, I reasoned that if
cosmodynes showed me the real strength and harmony or discord in my own chart, then
why can't they show the strength and harmony and discord between pairs of people? Why
can't the same principles be used to analyze the compatibilities (or lack thereof) between
two people in a relationship? The dual cosmodyne technique tries to gauge the strength
and harmony or discord between the planets in one chart and how they affect the planets in
another chart. Energy is energy. You have yours and I have mine. How do our energies
combine and/or conflict when mixed together? How can they be measured?
Below is an excerpt of a sample listing of the dual cosmodynes between my first wife and
me from my program called MatchMkr, or better yet, my Astro123 program, which you can
download from my website. Interaspects between the three outer planets are not considered
as Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are not personal planets.

This table shows how each of our planets is affected by the other's planets. The numbers
in the parentheses are the overall rank of power or harmony for each planet. A negative
number in the Harmony column represents Discord. Notice that overall her planets bring
out a +47.97 harmony in me and my planets bring out a +47.97 harmony in her (I have seen
harmony and discord between two people range from +200 to -175. Imagine trying to live
with another person you have -175 with!). The harmonies for the individual planets vary, but
the sum has to be the same. My effect on her is the same effect as her effect on me, in the
aggregate. But notice that my planets bring out the most discord in her Saturn energies.
Her planets bring the most discord in me through my Mars' energies. Yet we each bring out
strong harmony in each other's Venus (the love nature, affections, etc.). Our Jupiters are
harmonious as well (we just like each other, trust each other, and believe we are good for
each other and the other is good for us).
The Power*Harmony numbers show how each of us is affected by multiplying each of the
power numbers by each of the harmony/discord numbers and summing them. Sometimes
one person can be much more harmonious in the relationship than the other. I believe this
sum may show that factor.
Mutual receptions are important I think as they bring a way out of difficulty, they allow
the couple to find common ground. We have two mutual receptions between us. I have seen
as many as 6 between other couples. Each mutual reception has added 5 points of harmony
into the harmony totals.
So who loves whom more? I believe I loved her more as my Venus has more power than
hers (she brings out more of the love nature in me than I do in her). Yet I think she felt it
more as her Venus has more harmony than mine. Think of other ways to look at the things
here presented. Perhaps other meaning is evident to you.

This table shows the 11 most important factors in synastry analysis. Notice that we
shared 8 out of the 11 factors. And observe that only one is discordant (-0.61, hardly
discordant at all). Did we get along? You bet! We could always talk and relate to each other
(harmonious Mercurys). We had real love (Sun/Moon and Venus connections) and a
spiritual connection (Sun and Moon connection). We also had sexual sparks (Mars and
Venus connections as well as the Asc/Asc connection). We had a lot going for us. So what
was our trouble? We got married too young and didn't have the emotional development to
stick out the tough times, which always occur at certain times. But basic compatibility was
there.
This table shows the planets that are within one degree orb of exact aspect to each other.
These "connections", especially conjunctions, are the nails that tend to hold people
together. As you can see, there was plenty of glue. But no amount of glue can keep two
people together who decide they need to go their separate ways, for whatever reason. When
two people just give up, no astrology in the world can overcome that. It takes the will of the
two people involved to rule their stars.
Notice one big problem area - my Mars brought out discordant Moon energies in her and
her Moon brought out discordant Mars energies in me (my Mars square her Moon). Did we
have energy (lots of power there)? Did we have anger (lots of discord present)? Did we have
passion? Indeed! But we needed to learn how to control it better. That is the message of
discordant energies. It tells you what you should work on most.

This table gives a planet by planet summary of the power and harmony/discord between
each of our planets. At a glance you can see where the most energy is and where the most
harmony and discord are. You still aren;t convinced we were a great match for each other?
Look at the harmonies between all the "good" planets.
Interesting, right?
Below is the dual cosmodyne analysis for me and my second wife. We were much less
compatible then me and my first wife. Can you see why this is true? If not, then please
study the ideas presented more closely.

We fought like cats and dogs, arguing over everything, usually about the tiniest, silliest
things. We both wanted to wear the pants in the family at the same time (both Suns
discordant). There was rarely any cooperation, only competition. From the looks of the
Power*Harmony totals, we were equally miserable. Here are more numbers:
Ten out of the eleven factors are present. But there are none that are harmonious. And
only two are flat neutral. So plenty of attraction, but plenty of discord as well. No harmony
on the spiritual plane (Sun/Moon), the mental plane (Mercury/Mercury), the emotional plane
(Sun/Moon with Venus), the physical plane (Mars/Venus and Asc/Asc).

Amongst the planets aspecting each other within one degree there is plenty of power, but
where's the harmony (Mercury and Jupiter/Pluto is all)? Especially with the personal love
planets, Sun, Moon, Venus, and Jupiter? Not a pretty picture is it? Why did we get married?
It seemed like a good thing to do at the time. That plus hormones. You know how that goes,
right? Fate? Yes, definitely. Her Saturn was conjunct my Sun/Moon. I felt like I was in prison
and I made her very insecure.
Here are the major harmonies between our planets. Note the lack of interaction between
"good" (and personal - Mercury is neutral) planets. Maybe we should we been business
partners who just shared sex.
But also look at our trouble areas, especially noting the Sun and Moon afflictions:
Well, what do you think? Perhaps you see other things that I haven't covered. Go ahead,
experiment. Let me know of your conclusions.
Just to share with you one more example before you go off and try all your charts and
see the results, my parents were married for 49 years before my Mom, a Scorpio, passed
away in 1995 (Dad, a Taurus, passed in 1997). Here is the summary of the dual cosmodynes
between my parents. I should be so lucky, eh? They had persistence, among other things.

Even though my Mom and Dad had a harmony not that much different than me and my
first wife, notice that their Power*Harmony numbers are much greater. This suggests that
their strongest planets were also their most harmonious planets, plus they had more
aspects (nails) between their charts, or at least more exact aspects. This I think is
significant.
Dad sure brought out my Mom's Sun energies, and with a great deal of harmony, too.
And she brought out his Jupiter - both power and harmony. But he tripped her Mars
energies and she tripped his Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto energies. In other words, the above
summary table seems to be able to tell you which energies in one person are the most likely
to be set off positively or negatively by the energies in the other person. It would appear
that my Dad's Uranian energies tended to come out negatively because of my Mom's
presence. Likewise, it appears that my Mom's affection (Venus), self-expression (Sun) and
sense of security (Saturn) finds positive expression because of my Dad's influence. I
remember her telling me once that when she married my Dad she didn't know whether she
loved him or not, but she absolutely knew she could grow with him. Well, with the power
and positive harmony and the 49 years between them, there must have been quite a bit of
love there as well as growth. And my own experience with them seems to confirm that.

Look at that Venus/Sun power and harmony (pure love), also the Moon/Sun power
(spiritual connection).
Well, that gives you a bit of an idea of what dual cosmodynes are all about and how they
might be very useful in helping you determine a couple's compatibility or lack thereof. Of
course, I'm still somewhat skeptical that just one technique can give ALL the answers to
every situation, but I believe dual cosmodynes can be a very useful tool in our individual
toolboxes to help us unravel the mystery and message of the stars.
Oh, and just for the record, my MatchMkr program now has the capability of calculating
composite chart cosmodynes (and much more). My early investigation into this does not
show that cosmodynes done on a composite chart give much indication at all of
compatibility. Interesting, no? But I suggest that more study needs to be done before
accepting that statement as gospel. Good luck in your research.
