Hats oft to our Supervisors
By
ELDER E. ALBERT
ROSENVALL

1 would like to pay tribute to the wonderful men who are supervising the construc
tion of chapels and mission homes in the European Area.
I have had the privilege of meeting most of them, and my friendship with several of
them is of many years standing. Their devotion to duty and their example of un
selfish service is worthy of our highest commendation.
I was very touched by the testimonies of many of the young men who work with
these Supervisors as Local Building Missionaries. I sat in on a meeting with a group
of these, more than eighty in number, and listened to them pay tribute to the great
men who are their leaders. They all bore testimony that their lives had been greatly
enriched and blessed by the example of the faith, and the patient, kindly help that
they were receiving from their Supervisors. Their Supervisors were not present at
this meeting, so I feel sure that the words of praise that I heard were not said just
to make someone feel good but sprang from the depths of grateful hearts.
The expressions of gratitude included also the lovely women who stand by the side
of their husbands, sharing their joys and their sorrows assisting them in a very
large measure in the carrying out of their responsibilities. I feel sure that the Celestial
Kingdom of Heaven will be made up of people such as these.
It is no wonder the Lord said that his people would be spoken of as a peculiar
people. Peculiar because of the fact that the people of the world cannot understand
why anyone would leave home, family and established businesses to work with the
sole purpose in mind of helping others to help themselves, as our Supervisors and
their wives are doing.
So I feel to say congratulations to this fine group of wonderful people. They may
not be laying up any treasures in earth, unless they count the great love for them
that is engendered in the hearts of their associates, as earthly treasures. These may
not by properly classed as earthly treasures, but they will be received and enjoyed
in this life by all who unselfishly serve. And too, the effect of this kind of service
upon the soul of the individual who thus serves, is such as to make him more
humble, patient, loving and kind, aiding him in the development of the godlike
virtues that are innate within him as a son of God.
In conclusion I would like to repeat the words of the Savior when he said: There
is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the
Kingdom of Gods sake, who shall not receive manifold more in this present time,
and in the world to come life everlasting.

Groundbreaking - Bruxelles Branch - French Mission

On April 14, 1962, the Ground Breaking Ceremony for

the new Bruxelles Chapel was held. 7he site is a lovely
one, located on the corner of Avenue de Bruxelles and
Chausse de Romain.
The day was cold, but cheerful as the Saints gathered for
this long-aw'aited occasion. The services were presided over
by President Rulon T. Hinckley of the French Mission, and
conducted by Brother Jacques Geldcrmans of the branch
presidency.
The opening song was the stirring hymn, The Spirit of
God lake A Fire Is Burning. Invocation was offered by
Brother Guilliam Welleman.

Present were representatives of the mission organizations,

district officers, representatives of the Church Building Com

Elder Joseph Hasoppe, Assistant to the Area Supervisor, was
the first speaker. He made mention of the fact that this was
the beginning of a new era in the French Mission an

Tempelhof Chapel-Berlin Mission
A wonderful thing happened in Berlin!
Personnel in the United States Army
agreed to bring their big bull-dozers and
excavate for the Berlin-Tempelhof
Chapel. The Saints were overjoyed, for
this would save them much money. This
is how it happened:
Elder L. Marcus Jensen, Building
Supervisor in Berlin, learned that the
U.S. Army had helped the Saints in
Kaiserslautern with the excavation for
their chapel. President Percy K. Fctzer
of the Berlin Mission was consulted and
Elder Jensen asked for his help to see if
something could be done for Tempelhof.

THANKS TO THE GYGIS Gygi left Germany to return to America.
Elder Gygi was released from his po
sition as Real Estate Representative of
the Germanic Area, where he has done
an excellant job in obtaining building
sites for that Area. Prior to this assign
ment he served as Area Supervisor.
The Gygis are returning to take up their
business interests in Salt Lake City. Their
contribution of time and effort to the
Building Program while in Germany has
laid a foundation on which those who
are taking over may build. We wish
them well in their new endeavors, and
hope that they will have an opportunity
of visiting Europe some time in the
future to see the final results of the
labors that were initiated, in a large
measure, by them.
On May 28, 1962, the members of the
Area Staff, with their wives, gave a fare
well party for the Gygi family, sending
them on their way with their blessing.
