Our unique and innova- tive design has found wide acceptance from all industries. Our large, in-house cut to size facility undertakes the tailoring to customer drawings and we are also able to offer standard sheets and stairtreads. Various grades of material and finishes are avail- able, enabling the client to select one supplier for a complete project. Drawing Office A fully equipped CAD drawing office is able to undertake shop detailing and layout drawings for fabrication and erection purposes. These drawings can be received by electronic data transfer (e-mail) if required in a .DXF or .DWG format. Quality Assurance Our product range is designed and tested in accordance with MOODY DIN, BS and NAAMM stan- “es dards. Approval certification is available on request. Vital Engi- Certificate of Registration Vital Engineering and Angus McLeod Company (PTY) Lid. neering has been certified by foal Moody International Certifica- as tion as having achieved ENISO 1S se: 00 9001 - 2000 design status. We have held full accreditation for over 15 consecutive years. Grating Terminology 1. Load-Bearing Bar This refers to the load-bearing member spanning between supports. 2. Transverse Bar Amember fixed at right angles to the load-bearing bars to provide lateral restraint. 3. Binding Bar A bar or section fixed to the edges of a flooring panel flush with the top of the load-bearing bar. 4. Deep Binding Bar A bar or section fixed to the edges of a flooring panel and project- ing below the underside. 5. Length (Direction of Span) The overall dimension of a flooring panel parallel with the load- bearing bars. 6. Hard Stamped Tag A metal plate welded on tailored grating panels showing customer order number/drawing number and panel position number for easy erection on site. Curved Shaping The part of a cut-out which is curved CE The actual area of flooring excluding cut-out areas. Gross Area The total area of flooring including the cut out area. 7. Width The overall dimension of a flooring panel measured at right angles to the load-bearing bars. 8. Pitch The distance centre-to-centre of load-bearing bars or centres between points of lateral support to load-bearing bars. 9. Curb Angle A member fixed to concrete or supporting steelwork at the perim- eter of a flooring area 5 | direction of span 6 10. Non — Slip Nosing This refers to a member attached to the front edge of a stairtread or flooring panel. 11. Kicking Plate (Toe Plate) A flat bar around the edge of a flooring panel and projecting above the top of the load-bearing bars 12. End Plate A plate fixed to a stair or ladder tread for attaching to the stringer. Straight Shaping The part of a cut-out which is straight. Cut-out An area of flooring removed to permit pipes, columns, etc, to pass through or to clear obstructions. Vitagrid Walkway Grating Vitagrid open steel rectangular or square pattern flooring is manu- factured from mild steel to 350WA material and is constructed by a pressure forged process in which the load bearing and transverse bars are joined under 600 tons of pressure ensuring an immov- able intersection. Bar Arrangements Many types of Vitagrid have been developed to comply with world- wide application and safety requirements and allow a customer to choose a grating to match loading requirements. In addition, a range of smaller mesh sizes gives the added safety feature of stopping objects from passing between the bars. Transverse bars are 8mm solid round bars, but others are avail- able. Vitagrid is available in standard panel form. Normally ex stock in various standard sheets. Tailored fabrication of bespoke orders are manufactured from purpose made panels to reduce costs and wastage. Applications Vitagrid non-slip serrated grating is suitable for most walkway gantries, platforms etc and has been used in many applications. Serrated grating gives improved performance particularly for the offshore industry and reduces slippage and injuries. - See Vitagrid Walkway grating load table on page 21. Vitaplate Vitaplate is half the weight of equal strength chequer plate. This equates to less tonnage for handling, transportation and erection than with the equivalent chequer plate, producing overall cost and weight savings. Standard Range The basic substructure of Vitaplate is Vitagrid open steel grating with load bearing bars at 43mm pitch with 8mm transverse bars pressure forged at 100mm centres and a surface plate of 3mm vastrap pattern chequer plate welded to the substructure. Other Vitagrid configurations are available for different loads. Vitagrid heavy duty grating Our range of heavy duty grating combines all the advantages of pressure-forged grating with the extra load carrying capabilities of a heavy duty floor. Vitagrid heavy duty grating is constructed from load-bearing bars in various sizes at 43mm pitch with 8mm round bars pressure forged to the upper edges of the load-bearing bars using 600 tons of pressure. C =kgim width line load d = deflection at centre Deflection does not exceed 1/200 or 10mm Use of series table For other loadings to suit your needs in different series shown on the “additional grating series table" below - please select the load factor of the required series and multiply the load shown under the required span in the SERIES VE table ONLY by the factor. The result will be the load Of that series at that span. Do not apply the load factors to the deflections as these remain con- sistent.
