Background
- Born on April 3rd, 1958
- Her mother was a potter; her father was a painter
- Began developing photography skills in high school
- Died on January 19th, 1981 at age 22 while living in
Manhattan
- Created over 800 prints within her lifetime
Photography
- Interested and inspired by the human body and its form
- Used herself and other women as models
- Nudity was not meant to be provocative, but a form of
expression
- Photos were mostly black and white and used soft
lighting

Methods
- Used film photography
- Photos were taken on a small scale
- Slow shutter speed used in order to create blurred
images
- Gloomy mood was achieved by manipulating composition
and light
