Question
How do you configure a Device-based Alarm Server in CPR9?
How do I see the alarms from ALMD and ALMA instructions on the FactoryTalk View Alarm Summary page?

Answer
Refer to the FactoryTalk Alarms and Events System Configuration Guide (http://literature.rockwellautomation.com
/idc/groups/literature/documents/rm/ftae-rm001_-en-e.pdf) Publication number FTAE-RM001 for more information
on setting up Device-based Alarm Servers in CPR9. (Previously, this was called the FactoryTalk Alarms and Events
Quick Start Guide.)

Device-based Alarm Servers must be configured to supply Device-based alarm information to FactoryTalk
applications in CPR9. Device-based Alarm Servers are configured using FactoryTalk View Studio or the FactoryTalk
Administration Console.

1. Right-click on your FactoryTalk Application and select Add New Server --> Rockwell Automation Device
Server (RSLinx Enterprise).
2. Right-click on RSLinx Enterprsie and select the Alarms and Events tab.
3. Check the Enable alarm and event support checkbox.
4. Configure server-assigned priorities and alarm history.
5. Uncheck the Enable history checkbox if you do not want alarm logging at this time.
6. Click OK.
7. Each shortcut that will be pointing to Device-based alarms must also be configured for Alarm & Event support.
Double click to open Communication Setup.
8. Add a new device shortcut to your controller.
9. In the Alarms & Events Enable section, use the drop-down menu to select Yes.
10. Click OK.

Note 1: If enabling Alarm & Event support on an existing shortcut, restart RSLinx Enterprise server for the changes
to take effect.

Note 2: The ProgEnable parameter must be set in the ALMD or ALMA instruction in the RSLogix 5000 program for
the instruction to be enabled. The ProgEnable parameter can be found by accessing the instruction properties from
