1. What is corona? What are its affects and disadvantages?

2. What is a suspension insulator? Write the difference between pin and post insulator.
3. A 3-phase transmission line is being supported by three disc insulators. The potentials across top unit
(i.e., near to the tower) and middle unit are 8 kV and 11 kV respectively. Calculate (i) the ratio of
capacitance between pin and earth to the self-capacitance of each unit(ii)the line voltage and (iii) string
efficiency
4. Find the capacitance of a single phase line 40km long consisting of 2 parallel wires each 4mm in
diameter and 2 meter apart.

5. A single phase ac generator supplies the following loads-

i. Lighting Load of 20kW at unity power factor
ii. Induction motor of 100kW at pf 0.707 lagging
iii. Synchronous motor load of 50kW at pf 0.9 leading
Calculate the total KW and KVA delivered by the generator and the power factor at which it
works.

6. A 120V, 60HZ supply is connected across RL parallel circuit of resistance 10 ohm and
inductive reactance 4ohm.
i. Find the apparent power S, active power P, reactive power Q and the power
factor pf of the load.
ii. If a 0.95 lagging power factor is desired, what capacitance (in F) should be
connected across the line to correct the power factor to the desired value.
 7. The maximum demand of a consumer is 20A at 220V and his total energy consumption is
8760kWh.If the energy is charged at the rate of 20 baisa per unit of 500 hours use of maximum
demand per annum plus 10 baisa per unit for additional units. Calculate
i. Annual bill ii. Equivalent flat rate.

8. What is the difference between cicuit breaker and fuse? Explain the operating principle of
CB.
9. What are the difference between Radian abd Ring main system?
10. What are the disadvantages of low power factor?
