PROPOSED DATE FOR COMPREHENSIVE PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT:

PROGRAM RATIONALE (please review the Program Guidelines for directions):

With Teaching and Teacher Education as my primary specialization, I plan to take the
above eight courses, total 24 credits. Among them, EDUC 853, 850, 851, 874 are closely related
to my specialization, TATE. Although EDUC 878 is about International Education, I adopted it
as one of my primary specialization courses owing to my academic interests on language teachers
intercultural competence. I also have a plan to do one independent study to create a literature
review in 2018 Spring semester. The other independent study will be done in 2018 Fall semester
for the chapter III, methodology part, of my proposal, taking EDRS 824; I am considering
employing a mixed method for my doctoral dissertation. When it comes to an internship, I would
like to perform it at a teacher education institution to investigate students and teachers
intercultural competence.

As for my secondary focus, I decided to use my Masters degree specialty in English

Education that I was awarded in August 2013. The reason why I would like to count English
Education, in other words TESOL, as my secondary concentration area is that I am strongly
interested in English language teachers intercultural competence. I had consulted Dr. Fox who is
my committee chair advisor about my secondary emphasis, and she gave her consent to my plan.
Therefore, to satisfy the minimum requirement, 12 credits, for my secondary specialization, I will
take one more course, EDUC 882. By taking EDUC 882, I expect that I will be able to build
concrete knowledge regarding how closely related second language acquisition and cultural
awareness are to each other.
