Dear Students,
There are different myths about abnormality prevailing in our society. Such myths
have extremely unpleasant consequences. These may even lead to social stigma,
isolation and unjustified discrimination.
Your task is to provide the facts/realities against the below mentioned myths given in
the table. In this regard; you may consult different handbooks and websites to get an
in depth understanding of the myths and facts about abnormal behavior.

Myth No. 01 Prevention does not work. It is
impossible to prevent mental
illnesses.
Myth No. 02 People diagnosed with a mental
illness are always sick, act crazy
and are out of touch with reality.
Myth No. 03 Personality weakness or character
flaws cause mental health
problems.
Myth No. 04 People with mental health problems
 are violent and unpredictable.

Marking Scheme:
Each fact against the myths of abnormality carries 4 Marks.

Explain the concept of Deviance as a criterion of defining abnormality with the help
of an example.

Note:
Only in the case of Assignment, 24 hours extra / grace period after the
