2CASE STUDY

INTRODUCTION:-
Ajay kumar garg engineering college Ghaziabad an institution for technical education located
on NH24 Delhi Hapur by pass, nearly 20 km east of New Delhi. The college was established
in 1998 and offers B.Tech. Courses in seven disciplines of engineering. Laurie bakers
philosophy and methods has inspired the design, construction of a large part of the 45 acres
campus at a covered area of approximately 700000 SQFT has been built for the academic
centres, hostel, staff housing and miscellaneous projects.

Use first class brick with rat trap bond for walls.
Brick jail walls, a perforated brick screen which utilises natural air moment to cool
the homes interior and create intricate patterns of light and shadow
Use fly ash bricks for contrasting in elevations in respect of colour.

WHY THE COLLEGE IS LOW COST, GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE:-


Using low cost construction techniques resulting cost cutting in project without
compromising in quality and strength
Most projects including the academic centres and hostels are oriented with layout
alignment appropriate to climate conditions north- south orientation
Beautifully designed building faade with red and grey combination of red brick and
grey concrete slab
Natural light through openings and balconies, multiple courtyards within to maximise
natural light and ventilation access. All helps to reduce solar gain and minimize
energy consumption
Exposed brickwork in rat trap bond in walls is an effective thermal and sound
insulator that also provide economy
All walls are finished with 1:2:3 cement sand /stone dust pointing
