BRITISH POSSESSIONS IN- INDIA

AND

OTHER PARTS OF ASIA.

PUBLISHED BY OBDEB OF
BECBETABY OF STATE FOB INDIA IN COUNCIL.
EEB X A J E B ~ S

LONDON:
SOLD BY W. H.ALLEN AND CO., 18, WATERLOO PLACE ;
EDWARD STANFORD, 6, CHaRING CROSS :
HENRY S. KING CO. (LATE S ~ I I T EWEB
H, & CO.,) 65, CORNHILL.
NOTE.
FORthe purpose of displaying the extent to which the contenta
of this Catalogue illustrate the geography of India, it has been
arranged according to the actual divisions under which the Govern-
ment is now conduded. Various gaps occur, which the surveying
establishments under Colonel H. 5. Thuillier, R.A., Surveyor
General of India, ctre rapidly filling. up. To give a complete
datement of the classification, the following synopsis is intro-
duad, supplying at once a key to the political divisions of In&,
and to the arrangement of the Catalogue.
The spelling of the names of places in the headinp of the
Catalogue is in accordance with Thornton's Gazetteer of India, for
the sake of fracilitating reference to that work, as it is the only one
of the kind in print. The spelling of names in the titles of the
maps is copied ?om the actual titles for the purpoae of identifica-
tion. This explanation is due to the variations of spelling which
will be doubtless observed.
A liat of the publications of the Geological Survey of India, is
appended. They are sold in London by Messrs. Williams and
Norgate, Henrietta Street, W e n t Glarden. The only maps issued
at present by the Geological Survey, accompany the "Memoirs;"
but the commencement of a Gbological edition of the Indian Atlas
is about to be published.
The Maritime Charta formerly published by the Indian Govern-
ment, are now issued by the Hydrographer of the Admiralty.
They are therefore included in the Oatalogue of the Admirrrlty
Oharts.
