Introduction
Nowadays Facebook plays an important role in the daily life of people mainly for

socializing and interacting, however the students unknown the advantages that

can has this social networking site such as; support collaborative work, sharing

ideas and experiences with people from different places around world, it can

help them to improve abilities to write effectively using correctly the grammar,

common expressions and learning new vocabulary. But reality is that the

students use Facebook only for social purpose or entertainment weakening

performance their grades, because they spend a lot of time becoming in a

leisure that in their academic forums or activities to performance their skills.

Another cause are old fashioned methodologies used for the teachers, they are

only focused in grammar structures because their knowledge or domain is poor

about English language, they needs more training to improve their professional

profile, because they in the classroom became in a model of communicative

performance in terms of fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary etc. unfortunately

this cause has negative effects on the students because they lose motivation

and enthusiasm to learn English language and it is reflected in their grades.

Unfavourable educational context by not providing the resources and conditions

that are important to help the students in their learning such as; materials and

technology (laboratories, libraries), spaces appropriate physicist, small class

groups (less than 20 students), it cause affect the teaching learning process
because it will not be productive and conducive. This unfavourable context

becomes in an ineffective teaching because these deficiencies interfere in the

intentionality to teach to the students, unfortunately it is an effect negative for

students which induce a poor development of the four competences (writing,

reading, listening and speaking).

It is evident that a student from nineth year of Basic Education at Unidad

Educativa Bernardo Valdivieso lacks learning resources to prepare students

that interact in the real world, inadequate methodologies causing a low

motivation. For these reasons, we analyze the situation in this educational unit.

The epistemology of the study is positivistic and phenomenological. This study

is based on a quantitative approach to quantify data and generalize results from

a sample population of interest, also measure the incidence of various views

and opinions in a chosen sample.

PART THREE
METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN

3.1. Type and research design

This research is applied, descriptive and of field. The technique for collecting
data is the survey. The study is quantitative and transversal. Questionnaires will
be distributed to the respondents in face to face survey in the each classroom.

3.2. Population and sample size

The study will survey 100 students attending the Ninth year of Basic Education
at Unidad Educativa Bernardo Valdivieso, in Loja City Province of Loja, during
the first quimestre, 2017-2018

3.3. Field work

First of all, we have to ask the head-master the authorization for applying a
research survey to the students. Data will collect by physical surveys. This
surveys consist of 10 questions will be developed to investigate the effect of
Facebook usage in the English learning for students. The survey will be
distribute among students in mid-January, 2018. Then a total of 100 surveys will
be collected in late January, 2018 for the final data collection and data analysis.
Students will require to 5 to ten minutes to complete the survey.

3.4. Instruments for data collection

The instrument for gathering data will be the survey students which will have
multiple choice and no more than three open questions.

3.5. Processing and analysis

Quantitative data will be tabulated and compared by using SPSS software.
Measures of descriptive statistics will be used such as percentages, rates,
mean, variance and standard deviation.

3.6. Research Validity and reliability

Reliability is a measure of the consistency of scores over time and there are two
types: reliable across time that is if the same researcher would get the same
results if he or she did the same study at a different time; and reliable across
samples is when we get the same results in different groups.

In validity there are internal and external validity. The first one makes sure that
the cause-effect relationship identified in the study is really there, and there are
no other explanations for the results. The second one is about the bigger,
outside world, the results can be generalized beyond the immediate study.

Then, this study is reliable across samples, internal and external validity.
