Recognition of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) for Employment

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided at its meeting held on 28.06.2016 to consider the completion
of NVQ level 3 and NVQ level 4 as equal to passing the G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L)
examinations respectively, at the instances where the requirement of NVQ level 3 or NVQ level 4
along with the G.C.E. (O/L) or G.C.E. (A/L) has been included in Service Minutes and Schemes
of Recruitments as professional and educational qualifications for recruitment to posts in
technological and technical sectors.

02. Accordingly, it is possible to allow the applicants who have not fulfilled the above
educational qualifications required when recruiting individuals to posts in technological and
technical sectors but have completed National Vocational Qualifications, to apply for such posts
and further to recruit applicants to relevant posts if they have fulfilled the other qualifications
except the educational qualifications mentioned in the Schemes of Recruitments.

03. The relevant Appointing/ Administrative Authorities should take actions to revise the
relevant Service Minutes and Schemes of Recruitments with the inclusion of provisions in the
para 02 above and to obtain the approval of the Public Service Commission for the same.
