ALZHEIMER

SIGN AND SYMTOMPS: The degenerative changes that occur with Alzheimer's
disease affect the areas of the brain that control thought, memory and language
resulting in gradual signs and symptoms related to a persons behaviour and mental
function. Often, physical functions such as bowel and bladder control are also
affected.
PREVENTION: There are no proven ways to prevent the development of
Alzheimer's disease. However, there is epidemiological evidence to suggest that
leading a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

LUNG CANCER
SYMPTOMS: Symptoms of lung cancer are varied and warning signs are not
always obvious. Up to 25% of people who get lung cancer display no symptoms.
In people who do display symptoms, they include the following:
Persistent cough and hoarseness
Shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest pain
Blood-streaked sputum
Chest pain
Frequent episodes of bronchitis or pneumonia
Weight loss, weakness, and fatigue.
PREVENTION: The most effective measure that can be taken to prevent the
development of lung cancer is to stop smoking. Reducing exposure to passive
smoking is also an effective method of prevention.

DIARRHOEA
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: The main symptom of diarrhoea is loose, watery
bowel motions (stools, faeces) three or more times a day.
Accompanying signs and symptoms may include:
Urgent need to go to the toilet
Abdominal pain and cramping
Change in colour of your stools
Mucous, pus, blood, or fat in your stools
Vomiting
General body weakness and tiredness
PREVENTION: Hand washing is one of the most effective ways of preventing the
spread of viruses and bacteria that can cause diarrhoea. You should always wash
your hands thoroughly after using the toilet, changing nappies, and before meals.

CHOLERA
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: Infection is often mild, or without any symptoms, but
it can be severe.
Symptoms include:
sudden onset of painless, profuse, watery diarrhoea
nausea and vomiting early in the illness
dehydration.
PREVENTION: Infants, children and adults with cholera infection should
not swim until there has been no diarrhoea for 24 hours.

CORONARY HEART DISEASE

SYMPTOMS: If your coronary arteries narrow, they can't supply enough oxygen-
rich blood to your heart especially when it's beating hard, such as during
exercise.
PREVENTION: The same lifestyle habits that can help treat coronary artery
disease can also help prevent it from developing in the first place. Leading a
healthy lifestyle can help keep your arteries strong and clear of plaques. To
improve your heart health, you can:
Quit smoking
Control conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and
diabetes
Stay physically active
Eat a low-fat, low-salt diet that's rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains
Maintain a healthy weight
