Analysis
Purpose
Previous studies show that using disinfecting light bulbs result in a miraculous
change in the decrease of harmful bacteria living in areas such as hospice, medical
offices and child care facilities establishing a soothing yet safe environment.
Studies also show a diminish in overall Bioburden by 70%. A recent focus on
clean environments such as firms, facilities, clinics and technology led to the
study of this dynamic innovation. The purpose for this project is designed to
highlight differences in the patent activity of small and large firms in health
technologies and industries while reducing the amount of harmful bacteria and
waste left behind unknowingly.

Overall Findings
Medical establishments and small clinics in the surrounding areas reported a
consumption between 500 and 4,000 dollars a month on cleaning and disinfecting
services because of the inadequacy of having a device that disinfects periodically,
dust and bacteria create a drastic increase in build up. As a result, money is lost
because companies are continuously having to hire cleaning services to disinfect
and or train employees. This is a new, efficient and cost effective way to disinfect
facilities such as child care institutions, clinics and hospitals costing patients as
little as three dollars.

Highlights
Clinical testing has shown Indigo-Clean can achieve a continuous 70+ percent
reduction of harmful bacteria in the environment. At the same time, recently
published studies show that improved environmental hygiene compliance can
reduce healthcare-associated infections rates (HAI rates) by up to 32% for certain
organisms.
These results, combined with the additional cost per patient due to HAI, suggest
that preventing even a single infection would create a positive ROI (return on
investment) and drive down costs for healthcare providers.
Scope and Methodology
Researchers at University of Strathclyde developed the HINS-light technology by
spending a number of years developing and researching HINS-light technology for
the purpose of reducing the environmental transmission of disease causing
pathogens and ultimately reducing HAI in the healthcare setting. The technology
and its effectiveness have been the subject of more than 20 peer-reviewed
academic publications and 30 conference presentations.
Current disinfectant technology requires disinfectants to be applied to
surfaces episodically resulting in it being nearly impossible to achieve a
completely clean room. Clinical testing shows Indigo-Clean can achieve a
continuous 70 % reduction of bacteria.
Indigo-Cleans continuous white light uses a wavelength of 405 nanometers
(nm) to automatically, safely and continuously disinfect the air, hard and soft
surfaces.
According to Indigo-Cleans website, The 405 nm light is absorbed by
molecules within bacteria, producing a chemical reaction that kills the
bacteria from the inside as if common household bleach has been released
within the bacterial cells.
