*Marlin "Caamp 9"" Carbbine*

By: Warlordd

In the eaarly 1990's, pistol ammmo was cheap and pleentiful. 9m

mm prices reeally droppped
after thee Gulf War when surp plus ammo hit the marrkets, and m
many folks wanted to take
advantage of that boon.
b That's when thee Semi-autoo Marlin Caamp 9mm C Carbine riffle
started getting
g poppular.

Personaally, I don't like Rifles in pistol calibers. In My Opinioon, Rifles aare for
intermeddiate and loonger rangee targets, annd pistols aare for closse up work where the
length of
o a rifle cann limit youur maneuveerability. Hoowever, to each his ow wn, and I oown
one of th
hese little carbines
c sim
mply becau use it's fun (and cheapp) to shoot.

Anotherr thing Cammp 9 ownerrs find appeealing is thaat it also acccepts the S
Smith and
Wessonn M659 (Orr M59) mag w as it's own mags.. So if you own a S&W
gazines as well W
9mm pistol, chances are good d that the mags
m will fiit in the Caamp 9.. this is attractivve to
people that
t don't liike carryingg pistol maagazines ANND rifle maags AND ttwo differennt
kinds off ammo... I don't remeember if thee Camp 9 mmags will ffit in the S&&W pistol, but
somethiing in the back
b of my mind says they don't.. I may be wrong.

The Marlin Camp 9 comes withw a hoodeed front sitee and has a co-polymer lower
ht and money (It cuts down on production ccosts).
receiverr that saves you weigh

Breakdoown of this rifle is verry simple.. it'll remindd you a lot of the Ruger 10/22 inn
how it comes
c apartt.

Before you
y start, BE
B SURE the t magazin ne is out off the weapoon and thatt the weapoon
is UNLO OADED! If he weapon... remove it. Next, flipp the weapon
I there is a sling on th
on it's back and rem
move the twwo flat heaad screws inn the stock on both siddes of the
trigger assembly
a (T
They SHOU ULD NOT come all th the way outt of the stocck, they haave
keepers on the bacckside)... Reemove the stock from m the weapoon.
Lay the weapon onn it's side with
w the chaarging handdle up... pull out the tw
wo take-doown
own in the pic
pins sho p below.... there's no
othing that should "Flyy out", but be careful
anyway.

Now carrefully pulll the trigger housing away

a from the receiveer... This is about it foor
the trigg
ger housing
g.. it can bee cleaned att this point.. I wouldn'tt take it dow
wn any furrther
unless you
y know what
w yer do oing ;)
Flip the receiver baack over on
nto it's back
k... There iis a small gguide that siits in the
receiverr housing with
w a tiny spring
s undeer it. Part oof this guidee fits underr the bolt..
carefully
y remove th The spring shouldn't ffly out, it's m
he guide (T meant to sttay in the
receiverr housing).

Pull bacckwards onn the bolt with

w your thuumb as shoown below,, then rock the bolt
upwardss.. it should
d pull free now
n along with the sppring and rood guide asssembly.
At this point,
p the charging
c haandle will probably
p alsso flop out on it's ownn... but if itt
doesn't, just pull it out. It's noot attached to anythingg now.

Scrub thhis baby do own so it's nice

n and cleean.. then yyou'll be reeady to put it back
togetherr. I usually don't run much
m oil in my weapoons. For thee Camp 9 I simply cleean
the partss well, and then inspeect each parrt for "Weaar marks".... when I finnd a wear m
mark,
I put a liittle Teflon
n impregnatted oil on it
i (Breakfreee, etc).
I HATE E articles th hat, at this point,
p say, "Reassemb
" bly is in revverse order"", because ffor
some reason I ALW WAYS hav ve a problemm with SOM METHING G not wantiing to go baack
in the rifle like it came
c out. However,
H th
hat's about all there is to this riflee... With tw
wo
exceptio ons that everyone seems to forgeet to tell peeople aboutt reassemblling this riffle
(We'll get
g to those in a second d).

You can olt back into the rifle now

n put the bo n makinng sure the rod guide aand spring are
otch at the rear of the rifle, AND
in the no D that the chharging hanndle is seatted back inn it's
slot on the
t top of th he bolt.

Here's were
w we gett to "Excep ption #1" th
hat I talked about abovve.. make SSURE the bback
of the Guide
G Piecee is back UNNDER the bolt and thhat the frontt is sitting O
OVER the tiny
spring, with
w the pin n holes lineed back up..

OK, No big deal so o far.. but here's

h "Exception #2" and few peeople botheer to tell yoou
why you u can't get the
t trigger housing to line up in the receiveer. It just dooesn't "quitte
line up" and many folks damaage the weapon by linning up thee back pin hhole, slippinng
the back
k pin in, and then tryin ng to FORC CE the fronnt of the triigger housing down innto
alignmeent. Then thhey later coomplain thaat the weapon jams annd the sites aren't
accuratee.

So here''s the trick... The receiver housin ng has a "buullet feed G Guide" thatt sticks up ffrom
the triggger assemblly.. it'll wig ggle around d a little if yyou touch iit (It's suppposed to). T
This
bullet feeed guide MUST
M slip into the recceiver houssing BEHIIND the barrrel, NOT
under it! When you u slip the trrigger assemmbly into tthe receiverr housing, it'll ALMO OST
fit with the bullet feed
f guide UNDER
U th
he barrel.. tthis is a NO
O NO.. rockk the feed
guide so o that it sitss behind thee back end of the barrrel as show wn below... now
everythiing should EASILY liine up and go back toogether.
Now yer almost do one.. slip th
he retaining g pins backk into place (making suure the sidee
guide piiece that sitts on top off the tiny sp
pring is in pplace). Slipp the weapoon back intto
the stock
k and tighten down th he two flat head
h screwws and yer D Done! Simpple huh?

Even wiith my biass against riffles in pistool calibers, I think thiss is a neat llittle rifle.... it's
small, liight, fun to shoot and it blends inn well whille you're inn the woodss. It just seeems
"Conven nient to carrry". Many farmers lik ke em for ""Varmit gunns" (Especially if the
"varmitss" get up too coyote or human sizze), for this reason maany shooterrs call thesee
"Ranch Rifles". An n added bennefit is thatt they don'tt (usually ddon't) draw gasps of feear
from yu uppies that see
s you in the woods with them.. These riflles have been very
reliable with a wid de variety of
o ammo typ pes in my eexperience, and THAT is the truue
test of a weapon.

Marlin also
a makes this rifle in
n .45 cal. called (Duhh) the "Cam
mp 45".

Enjoy! BE
B SAFE!
