Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom (Minimum 2 paragraph overview):
TakingITglobal is an online collaboration site where students address global issues. For a lesson I would
incorporate this website by first finding a global issue that kids can understand (climate changes). First, I will
have students explore and research this global weather issues focusing on their state or country only.
Students will then collaborate with professional online to deeper understand. Once students have collected
enough date including weather patterns, climate changes, and their effect on the environment students will
get on this website, and collaborate with students from different countries or states. Once students do that
they will work as a class to create a document including things they have learned about each country.
This project will help students to better understand their environment and why they should take care of it.
It is also a great way to understand other countries around the world. Collaborating with other students as
well as professionals will help student to further their understanding, and a great way for students to
understand how other students may live or learn.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?

Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: This website will help set up a project where students can not only communicate globally but
also with professionals.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students take control of their learning with
independent research online, collaborating with professionals, collaborating with other students, and
hands on experience. They will then create I final product as a class including various different
environmental impacts (who causes them, how it impacts the environment) in the U.S. as well as the
other countries they learned about through collaboration.

c. Higher-order thinking: Students do research, and then apply their acquired knowledge in order to
create a final product with what they have learned.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: Students will
post their findings on the TakingITglobal site.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies: First I would ensure that all websites were safe
and approved. In order for students to share their work and collaborate with others I would send out a
parent signature form with each child, getting their parents' permission for them to collaborate, and
publish.
