Equipment: Different colored shapes cut out of construction paper
(Shapes can include stars, circles, squares, triangles, etc.)
Description: 1.) Scatter different colored shapes across the room.
2.) The leader will call out a certain shape along with the color of that shape and
the participants must go stand on that particular shape.
3.) As the leader calls out a shape for the participant to get to, they will include an
action verb of how the participant must arrive to that shape. Example, they must
jump, twirl, tip-toe, or hop to that shape
4.) After everyone arrives to that shape, the leader will take away one cut out of
that shape.
5.) The leader will continue to call out shapes and take away each shape one by one
making it harder for the participants to find a shape to stand on.
6.) If a participant cannot find that shape to stand on they will be disqualified.
7.) The game will continue until there is only one available shape to stand on and
whoever gets there first will be considered the winner
Primary interaction pattern: Unilateral- game where all players have the same role except for
one

Research: The activity that I chose is an interactive game between the leader and the
participants. This activity can help test cognitive skills as well as physical skills. I chose to adapt
this game for children who have Down syndrome. Intellectual and developmental symptoms of
Down syndrome can include cognitive impairment including problems with thinking and
learning. Other common cognitive and behavioral problems can include short attention span,
poor judgement, and slow learning.(Bull). This will be a great learning game by learning
different shapes and colors while having fun at the same time. Also, having the children perform
a certain action verb will help with gross motor skills. I chose to adapt this game by providing
something almost like an answer key in case the children need to refer to that to remember what
a star or circle looks like. I will write the name of the shape with the actual shape next to it.
Having the shapes in different colors will also be helpful to them when the leader calls out a
green circle for example.
