Introduction
These release notes are for 3D Drill View KM, a DecisionSpace application. The
information provided is specific to 3D Drill View KM. For general information related to the
DecisionSpace release, refer to the DecisionSpace 5000.0.0 Release Notes.
3D Drill View KM Installation
3D Drill View KM is installed during the DecisionSpace AssetView install process. Refer to the
DecisionSpace Installation Guide, or the AssetView Release Notes for information on installing
DecisionSpace AssetView 5000.0.0. Please refer to this guide for the following information:
hardware requirements
software requirements
supported configurations
installation procedures
post-installation procedures (i.e. connecting to license server, setting environment variables, etc.)

This application is used in conjunction with another DecisionSpace program - AssetView.

AssetView and 3D Drill View KM (Knowledge Management) are three-dimensional (3D)
visualization PC software products by Landmark Graphics, on Windows or Linux
Operating systems, for drilling engineers, geophysicists, and other disciplines involved
with the drilling domain. They provide advanced 3D rendering technology with the
capability to display and manipulate (rotate, zoom, translate) geoscience earth model
data objects together with drilling, engineering, and operations data for integrated
knowledge management and real-time decision making.
These products dynamically display in 3D the real-time updates of well trajectories and
log curves, populated into OpenWorks, from Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD),
Logging-While-Drilling (LWD), and Surface Logging real-time drilling services. This
enables direct real-time comparison of plan versus actual information and allows
improved decision making regarding drilling operations.
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM are aligned with Landmarks 5000.0.0 Synchronous
Release with regard to OpenWorks and SeisWorks project access and the workflow
interaction with other product applications in the 5000.0.0 Synchronous Release. DIMS or
EDM databases, and goCad data are other data sources accessible by this product.
OpenWorks for Windows or Linux, installed on the users PC, is a basic dependency for
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM.
AssetView and 3D Drill View KM are configurable for use both in the office environment
and the drilling rig-site. They can be used in standalone off-network mode or client/server

on-network mode.
3D Drill View KM (Knowledge Management) is an expanded feature set for AssetView that
allows you to query, create, and view knowledge attachments to mark significant
downhole and drilling operations events. 3D Drill View KM also facilitates the viewing of
EDM Operations data including bit runs, ROP, gravel packs, perforations, stimulations,
mud weight, and torque. The KM feature requires an additional license to the core
AssetView product.

3D Drill View KM 5000.0.0 licensing for both new and existing customers will consist of
several features to take advantage of all 3D Drill View KM offers. Refer to the following
table for information on the licenses required to perform various functions.

In order for EDM functionality within 3D Drill View to function correctly, you must first map
the EDM wellbores to the desired OpenWorks wells using the EDM to OpenWorks Link
(Start > Landmark Engineers Desktop > Tools > EDM to OpenWorks Link) utility
installed with EDM.

Third Party Applications

Landmark uses various third-party applications in the development of its software.
Landmark acknowledges that certain third party code has been bundled with, or

Definitions
CCATS (Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System) - the tracking number

assigned by the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) to products formally reviewed
and classified by the government. The CCATS provides information concerning export/re-
export authorizations, available exceptions, and conditions.
ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) -The ECCN is an alpha-numeric code, e.g.,
3A001, that describes a particular item or type of item, and shows the controls placed on
that item. The CCL (Commerce Control List) is divided into ten broad categories, and each
category is further subdivided into five product groups. The CCL is available on the EAR
Website.

The ECCN Number, License Type, and the CCATS Numbers for this product are included
in the table below. Also included is the date the table was last updated.

Enabling the KM Tabs

Refer to the DecisionSpace 5000.0.0 Installation Guide for instructions on installing
DecisionSpace and 3DDV KM.
Windows Installations
After you have finished installing DecisionSpace and KM, the following are common ways
to access drilling data.
Access a DIMS database (version 2003.0.1 or later).
Access an EDM database (version 2003.14.0 or later).
If you have the Engineers Desktop installed: You can use the KM functionality
at the fullest level. You can access OpenWells reports, Profile schematics, and re-
run the Data Analyzer KM queries.
If you do not have EDT installed: You can access a remote EDM database
through an ODBC connection. To use KM EDM functionality, the EDM database
must already be populated with KM Query results generated by Data Analyzer.
EDM Operations functionality works directly with existing EDM database data and
does not depend on KM Query results generated by Data Analyzer. In addition, if
EDT is not installed, you will not have access to OpenWells reports, Profile
schematics, or be able to re-run Data Analyzer KM queries.
Linux Installations
Access an EDM database (version 2003.14.0 or later) after installing DecisionSpace and
3DDV KM. Because the Engineers Desktop (EDT) is not intended for the Linux
environment, a Linux installation will not have access to OpenWells reports, Profile
schematics, or Data Analyzer functionality. To use KM EDM functionality, the EDM
database must already be populated with KM Query results generated by Data Analyzer.
EDM Operations functionality works directly with existing EDM database data, and does
not depend on KM Query results generated by Data Analyzer.
DIMS can not be installed on the Linux environment, nor can a Linux KM installation
access a DIMS database.

Accessing the 3D Drill View KM Feature Set
3D Drill View KM appears as an extension of AssetView on your computer. Installing 3D

Drill View KM adds the files necessary to access the KM feature set. The visible difference
when running AssetView with the KM feature set is the accessibility of the KM tabs (KM
DIMS, KM EDM, and EDM Operations) on the OpenWorks Wells tab of the AssetView
Data Selector. (When the KM feature set is installed and licensed, the KM tabs become
active.)
To start 3D Drill View KM:
1. Select Start > Programs > Landmark > DecisionSpace.
2. Are you opening an existing or new session?
If you are opening an existing session, use File > Open Session to select the
session you want to open from the Available Sessions table in the Open
Existing Sessions dialog and select OK.
If you are opening a new session, use Launch > Launch Modules. Select
AssetVIew, set the parameters for your new session, and select OK.
3. Click the Data Selector icon on the toolbar. The AssetView Data Selector screen
opens.
4. Click on the OpenWorks tab.
5. Navigate the data tree and select the project of interest, if you want to select another
project.
6. Click the Wells tab to retrieve the wells for this project and display them in the
AssetView.
7. The KM tabs are displayed in the lower row of tabs. Click the appropriate tab, KM
DIMS, KM EDM, or EDM Operations (based upon your data source), then select the
Enable checkbox to make the 3D Drill View KM controls available for use.

Enhancements and New Functionality
Create Knowledge Attachments in 3D View
To create a Knowledge Attachment in the 3D View, right-click on a wellbore and select

Add EDM Knowledge Attachment, or Add DIMS Knowledge Attachment depending on the
drilling database you are using. Note that you must have checked the Enable box on the
corresponding KM EDM or KM DIMS tab.
Knowledge Attachment Symbols Stored in EDM Database
KM symbols are now stored in the EDM database. (Prior to R2003.19.1, the symbols were
stored in files.) Any symbols stored in files will be up-loaded into the EDM database the
first time you open the database.
3DDV KM Runs on Linux
3DDV KM now runs on Linux and can connect to either Oracle or SQL Server EDM
databases.
Select All and Clear All Buttons Added to the Choose Items Dialog
Select All and Clear All button were added to the Choose Items dialog to improve the
usability of the dialog.

Fixed Problems
These items have been fixed since the previous release.
601300 The EDM well and wellbore names are displayed in the Knowledge
Attachment Details dialog.
623035 Data Tips display the EDM well and wellbore names.
702192 (and 703425) All Landmark 5000.0.0 applications currently use Oracle 10g
Client only. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to install two versions of
Oracle Client in order to run 3D Drill View KM with EDM.
705359 DataTips are available for ROP, Mud Weight, or Torque even if the curves lie
within a Bit Run image.
715892 A distorted image was displayed when displaying bit run data. (EDM
Operations)
737851 For DecisionSpace 3D Drill View KM version 2003.19.1, the EDM auto-login
used by EDM Object Connect needs to be updated to work with version
2003.21 applications. Currently, the EDM auto-login in EDM Object Connect
works with the 2003.16, or 2003.16.1 versions of the EDM applications only.

Known Problems
The following list contains issues identified during the development and testing of 3D Drill
View KM 5000.0.0, but have not yet been resolved. These items, have been assigned a
tracking ID number. Their status is Open and will be further evaluated (and possibly
corrected) in a future release.
714375 Individual wells with Bit Runs numbering in excess of approximately 20 have
been observed to render more slowly in the 3D Viewer than wells with a more
typical number of BHA runs (such as 5 to 12), due to the filtering algorithm
used to enable the DataTips to perform correctly in cases where Bit Runs of
differing diameter overlap in depth.
738070 The data source/autologin check applied when restoring a saved session is
no longer working correctly by warning of differing DSN's. For example, if you
are logged in to an EDM data source, and then open a saved session that
used another EDM data source, the data source you already had opened will
be used instead of the data source saved with the session.
739626 The KM EDM sub-tab spreadsheet does not immediately refresh after making
changes to the Code/Subcode pair selections.
739627 The KM DIMS sub-tab spreadsheet does not immediately refresh after
making changes to the Code/Subcode pair selections.
741394 When KM is used in both Windows and Linux environments, all links to files
will be displayed in both environments regardless of what path they include
(Windows or Linux based paths). To avoid confusion, consider using
descriptive file names that would indicate if the file resides in a Linux or
Windows environment. For example, Linux files could include a -L in the file
name, and Windows files could include a -W in the file name.
742799 If the EDM login dialog will not reappear after inadvertently canceling it,
disable and then re-enable the KM EDM sub-tab. This will cause the EDM
login dialog to reappear.
