This article describes the desig n p rinc ip le s o f th e COLSEC co rpus and th e m e thods adopted in
transcribing and annota ting its data. It spe lls ou t such im po rtant reg ister fac to rs as task setting,
discou rse genre, topic varie ty and le arner backg round inform a tion, in sam p ling data fo r the
lea rne r spoken Eng lish corpus. It th en goes on to discuss the re lated issues and the ir so lu tions
as rega rds head inform ation m ark-
up, discourse inform a tio n tagg ing and pronuncia tion e rror
tagging, w hich ought to, in genera l, abide by the overall p rinc ip le s of truthfulness, accuracy

Resump tive p ronouns in Ch inese topicalization structures are som e tim es obliga tory and som etim es
optiona.l F ollow in g th e fram ew ork of dynam ic syntax, the presen t paper estab lishes a dynam ic
parsin g m ode l and a ttem pts to g ive a princip led and uniform explanation for th e presence and
absence of resum ptive pronouns in topicalization struc tu res. By so doing, we a ttem pt to
expound th e wo rking p rinc ip le s of dynam ic syntax and explore the possibility of app ly ing
dynam ic syntactic th eo ry to the study o f Ch in ese in genera.l
