Q17 Please provide comments in regards to the student teacher's strengths and areas for improvement.
*Ms. Hicks plans with her grade level, utilizing VBO's & SOL's to prepare engaging and rigorous lessons focusing on critical thinking,
creativity, communication, collaboration, and citizenship.
*You issued small sticky notes for students to mark important details in the text - strategy for engagement and accountability.
*You issued large sticky notes and instructed students to post their main idea sentence (with supporting details) and to leave in their
books. You will use the information to assess their understanding of non-fiction text features. (What will you do for the students who
continue to struggle with the concepts?)
*You took the time to clarify and repeat directions to the whole class (while modeling with the text) when you noticed several students
questioning the assignment.
*You worked 1:1 with a student who was struggling, providing scaffolding as necessary to assist his understanding.
*Consider utilizing cooperative strategies such as RoundRobin for students to share important details with their table partners before
sharing out - this gives everyone an opportunity to voice their learning.
*Remember to give students appropriate wait time when asking a question.
*Consider holding all students accountable for learned information, by randomly drawing students' names rather than calling on students
whose hands are raised. This also will encourage engagement with the text.
