House Blessing Ritual

Gods: Ianus and Hestia, governed by Helios


Symbols: salt water in a cup, incense (sage for cleansing, frankincense for
invocation), wine for both, honey on a stick for the lintels with tray for altar, a
key for door blessing, a candle for Hestia at the hearth, singing bowl with stick,
and ringer

For spirit house invocation: incense (frankincense or other valuable incense),


wine, bread, tobacco, decorations found on the property such as attractive stones

For Shrine consecration: use same salt water and sage incense as above, a bit of
earth from the land on a flat dish (Earth), a small dish of water (Water), a
feather (Air), and a small candle (Fire). The four elements are placed on a tray
next to the shrine, covered and unlit (in the case of the candle)

Rite:

0. wash hands (at least), don the keys


1. open with the usual work, speed-energy raising
2. purify selves with Dissolution/Immeasurables
3. invoke Cosmos with "Holy Art Thou..."
4. invoke Ianus and Hestia in the inner, in the Name of Helios, asking Them to
grant the power to bless the home. This is like a pathworking, but simpler.
Invocation at the spirit house (If performed)
A. Process to the spirit house, light incense
B. Invoke Hekate as queen of daemones and ask her to grant the power to command the
spirits
C. Courteously invite the spirits to take possession of the house as their abode,
forsaking claim to the human home
D. Offer wine and bread and tobacco to the spirits
E. Thank the spirits for their presence and confirm their continued good will
Return to the main house
5. with sage incense and salt water, cense and asperge all rooms to purify,
return to altar
6. take up the key, wine and honey stick, as well as the singing bowl or bell
7. go to each doorway, and call Janus 4 times, making a quartered circle with key,
and finishes by saying, "Ianus, be welcome in our home."
8. imagine Ianus on the other side of doorway, and step forward to merge with Him.
9. mark doorway with the honey stick, saying "Sweet omens attend upon
beginnings."
10. Sprinkle wine outside of doorway
12. step away from Ianus, who is absorbed into doorway.
13. Repeat for all doorways.

14. return to the altar.


15. Put honey stick on altar tray, keep wine
16. go to the hearth, stands facing it. Call Hestia three times, and then say,
"Hestia, be welcome in our home."
17. imagine Hestia in the hearth, and imagine that She approaches and merges with
you
18. Take up the candle, turn, raise it high, and proceed through the house
19. Spread warmth of Hestia throughout house
20. In each room, dip a finger in the wine and sprinkles it very lightly as an
offering, and say, "Blessed be this home with warmth and love."
21. return to altar, return implements to altar. Allow Hestia to return to hearth
and be absorbed into it.

IF A SHRINE IS TO BE CONSECRATED:
22. Take up salt water and incense
23. go to the shrine, and purify with water and consecrate with fire
24. Invoke the four elements, saying
a. "In the name Uriel, I bless this shrine with Earth."
b. "In the name Gabriel, I bless this shrine with Water."
c. "In the name Raphael, I bless this shrine with Air."
d. "In the name Michael, I bless this shrine with Fire."
For each of the above, imagine the archangel shining a light onto the altar.
25. kneel before shrine and place your arms on/alongside/over it, head
down. Invokes in your own words, a simple utterance, asking for the Light to bless
the shrine
26. Imagine light streaming into the shrine from far above and from below, meeting
in that place.
27. Return to the altar and place salt water/sage incense on it

28. close, put off key
