TRANMAC Q2

I. A cast iron material is 6 mm thick, 24 mm wide and 15 cm long. The material is formed as a toroidal
solenoid would with 1,200 turns of wire. If a magnetic flux of 1 x 10 - 4 weber is present at the material,
determine the reluctance of the material and the magnetomotive force present at the material. Let the
permeability of the cast iron be 1.83 x 10- 4 weber per ampere-turn-meter.

II. A 10-kVA 60-Hz single-phase transformer has 1,320 primary turns and 46 secondary turns. The
transformer has a maximum flux of 3.76 x 106 maxwells.
a.) Determine the primary voltage and secondary voltage of the transformer.
b.) Determine the primary current and secondary current of the transformer.
c.) Determine the voltage-to-turns ratio at the primary winding and secondary winding of the
transformer.
d.) If primary resistance of the transformer is 0.8 , secondary resistance is 0.009, the primary
reactance is 3.2 and the secondary reactance is 0.3 , determine the equivalent resistance,
reactance and impedance
i.) in secondary terms
ii.) in primary terms
e.) If the percent voltage regulation is 3.33%, determine the no-load secondary voltage.

III. A 100-kVA 11,000/2,200 volts single-phase transformer is given. At a frequency of 60 Hz, the
hysteresis loss is 750 watts and the eddy-current loss is 225 watts. If the full-load copper loss is 940
watts, determine the new voltage and apparent power rating of the transformer at a frequency of 45 Hz.

IV. A 375-kVA single-phase transformer has a full-load copper loss of 3.72 kW and a core loss of 3.33
kW. Determine the all-day efficiency for the following loading of the transformer:
5 hours - 300 kW
4 hours - 150 kW
6 hours - no load but primary is connected
9 hours - no load but primary is disconnected
