Lesson idea implementation: Students will create their own video of either a pet or their favorite animals
life cycle. The teacher will allow as a facilitator and help only when asked by students and to give direction.
The project will be introduced by reading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Students will be asked that
while reading, notice what happens to the caterpillar. Teacher and students will then discuss what happened
to the caterpillar and ask is anyone know what it is called. After discussing, teacher will tell students to think
of their pet or favorite animal and we will create a video. This should take 2-3 days. Day 1 is planning, day 2 is
gathering pictures and beginning on video, and day 3 (if needed) finishing video and presenting.
Students will be assess by if they were able to accurately show the life cycle of the animal they picked
and their presentation of video. The final project will help students to understand more what the life cycle is
and how it happens to different animals and gives students a visual for the life cycle. I will extend this lesson
by having a class caterpillar and we will watch how it changes into a butterfly and track it on a chart. I will
conclude the lesson by giving a short quiz and having students tell the life cycle of their animal. I will provide
feedback to students by having one on one conferences with them.

Importance of technology: Using a multimedia tool is very important for this project because students will be
making a movie either in the classroom or at home using IMovie. Unfortunately, this project must use

technology for it to work. Students will ask their parents for pictures of their pets, or help to look up the life
cycle of an animal and go through the different stages of their life. Different types of technology will be used
such as cameras, ipads, laptops, and IMovie.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Student safety is a major concern in all classrooms and schools. There
are different issues that students could become involved in if they are not careful but teachers responsibility
for the students is to make sure they do not post any information that tells about the student such as first and
last name, age, school, city, or state. When children do use online websites that require a nickname, be sure
that students are using pseudonyms, not their real name. To help parents to feel better about allowing their
child to use the internet, teachers should send a form home that gives the student consent to go onto the
website. Each teacher must follow the rules of FERPA and CIPA which also help to keep children safe while
using the internet. FERPA is the parents right to inspect students educational record and the responsibility of
the teacher to keep those files safe. CIPA filters out harmful material that student should not see while online
at schools.
