1. To illustrate the application of Gausss law, check the results of Faradays experiment by placing a
point charge Q at the origin of a spherical coordinate system (Figure 1) and by choosing a closed
surface as a sphere of radius a.

Figura 1: .

2. An electric field in free space is E = (5z 2 /0 )az V/m. Find the total charge contained within a
cube, centered at the origin, of 4-m side length, in which all sides are parallel to coordinate axes
(and therefore each side intersects an axis at 2).

3. A Volume charge density is located in free space as V = 2e1000r nC/m3 for 0 < r < 1 mm, and
V = 0 elsewhere. (a) Find the total charge enclosed by the spherical surface r = 1 mm. (b) By
using Gausss law, calculate the value of Dr on the surface r = 1 mm.

4. A uniform volume charge density of 80 C/m3 is present throughout the region 8mm < r < 10mm.
Let V = 0 for 0 < r < 8mm. (a) Find the total charge inside the spherical surface r = 10mm.
(b) Find Dr at r = 10mm. (c) If there is no charge for r > 10mm, find Dr at r = 20mm

5. In cylindrical coordinates, let V = 0 for < 1mm, V = 2sin(2000) nC/m3 for 1mm < <
1.5mm, and V = 0 for > 1.5mm. Find D everywhere.

6. Let D = 5.00r2 ar mC/m2 for r 0.08 m and D = 0.205ar /r2 C/m2 for r > 0.08 m. (a) Find
V for r = 0.06 m. (b) Find V for r = 0.1 m. (c) What surface charge density could be located
at r = 0.08 m to cause D = 0 for r > 0.08 m?
k
7. Un cascaron esferico tiene la siguiente densidad de carga = r2
para a r b. Encuentre el
campo electrico en las siguientes regiones

(a) r < a
(b) a < r < b
0 = 8.85 1012 C 2 N 1 m2 dv = r2 sin()drdd
