Intro Review VERBS
Who can tell me what a VERB is?
Who can give me an example of a verb?
A verb is a kind of word (part of speech) that
tells about an action or a state. It is the main
part of a sentence: every sentence has a verb. Notes
So, now that we have remembered what verbs
are, who can tell me what an ADVERB is?
An adverb is a word used to tell more about
a verb, and it almost always answers
the questions how?, when?, where?, how
often?, and in what way?
What are some examples?

Read first part of Dearly, Nearly, Insincerely
Today, we are going to play ADVERB
CHARADES with HOW ADVERBS
Body Who has ever played charades before?
I will explain the rules and then we will get
into two teams to play. (Let students pick
boys against girls or random teams)
RULES: One person from each team up to the
front and reads the phrase they must act out.
No speaking
When I say go both people act out the phrase
which contains both a verb and adverb.
Write the Phrases on the board after the
correct answer is guessed.
When there is five minutes left in the lesson,
ring bell and bring all students back to their
desks.

Conclusion Discuss which adverbs they like the best from

the game, which they had not heard before,
and what they enjoyed about the game itself
and WHY??
Next lesson we will learn more about making
our writing better through the use of adverbs.
Assessments/Reflections Assessment -note how easily the students
could categorize the adverbs and if they were
demonstrating the adverbs in their actions,
showing understanding of the words.
Also, determine if the words were too difficult
to grasp in action. This might be a difficult
task for some students.
