2 Product description, DC/DC converter CPC 1500B Series About the DC/DC converter
2 Feature overview
The key features of the CPC 1500B DC/DC converters include:
If the input voltage rises above the maximum input voltage limit, the converter switches
off. Exposure to DC over-voltage may cause converter failure. If the input voltage falls
below the minimum input voltage limit, the converter switches off.
The converter switches on automatically when the input voltage is within the input voltage
limits. The operating range can be configured using the PSC 3 controller.
The default output voltage setting can be reconfigured by means of using the PSC 3
controller. The output voltage setting range of the DC/DC converter is 24 ... 28 V (for the
model CPC 1500B-24) respectively 48 ... 56 V (for the model CPC 1500B-48).
The default output current limit setting can be reconfigured by means of using the PSC 3
controller. The output current limit setting range of the DC/DC converter is 6 ... 58 A (for
the model CPC 1500B-24) respectively 3 ... 29 A (for the model CPC 1500B-48).
The factory setting is 29.5 V +/- 1V (for the model CPC 1500B-24) respectively 59 V +/-
1V (for the model CPC 1500B-48).
The default OVP limit setting can be reconfigured by means of using the PSC 3 controller.
The OVP setting range of the DC/DC converter is 27 ... 29.7 V (for the model CPC
1500B-24) respectively 56 ... 59.5 V (for the model CPC 1500B-48).
Disconnecting the DC input supply voltage for approximately 2 seconds resets the DC/DC
converter after an OVP shutdown.
3.7 Cooling
The DC/DC converter uses a fan to force air through it. The air inlet is from the front side.
Thermal management protects the DC/DC converter against overheating by reducing the
output current limit to limit the internal temperature, as shown in Figure 6 and Figure 7.
To protect against interrupted air flow and fan failure, the DC/DC converter is shut down
as soon as the internal temperature reaches a critical value. If the temperature returns to
within normal limits, the DC/DC converter restarts automatically. If the airflow is
interrupted or the fan fails, the DC/DC converter recognizes several unsuccessful restart
attempts within a short period. In that case the DC/DC converter remains shut down and
an alarm is generated.

Config button
For removal of the DC/DC converter from the system, the handle must be lifted first to
unlock the DC/DC converter and then the DC/DC converter can be pulled from the
system.
4.3 Configuration
When installed to a system with a PSC 3 / CSU 502 controller, the DC/DC converter is
automatically configured. In systems without a controller the DC/DC converter operates
with the factory-set standard configuration.
Some special system functionalities with PSC 3 require an acknowledge process of the
DC/DC converter. In such case the user will be guided by the PSC 3 to press the Config
button on the front of the DC/DC converter.
