Calculations for Flitched connection - Intermediate post joint in accordance with BS5268:Pt 2:2002
Assumptions
1. The inclinations of the timber beams are measured with respect to the vertical.
2. The direction of the loads acting on the timber beams is taken with respect to the longitudinal dimension of the timber beam.
3. The axial load is assumed to be acting along the longitudinal direction away from the bolt group inducing tension at the bolt
group (for critical condition).
4. The end distances for both steel plate and timber beams were assumed to be 7 times the diameter of the bolts at the splice
end and 3 times the diameter for steel plate at the far end.
5. The length of the plate is measured at mid line with the dimensions rounded to the nearest 5 above. The leg plate is
measured at mid line from the bottom edge of the top plate.
