Purpose:
The purpose of this learning experience is to provide children with an opportunity to
create colorful photo frames with popsicle sticks, glue and other decorations. This
activity will provide the children with the opportunity to build on their fine motor and
creative skills.
Observation Sample:
Last week, as the children were playing at different centers during afternoon play, I was
sitting with a group of children while they were coloring pictures of aboriginal animals
with markers, pencil crayons and crayons. As the children were coloring, I noticed Child
A was coloring her animal with different patterns of the rainbow, as I noticed this I told
her that the animal she was coloring looked really colorful. As I told her this, she really
loved how the picture turned out and wanted to show her parents what she colored. I told
her that she was welcomed to take her picture and show it to her parents. As she was
continuing to color her picture, Child A notified that she really wanted to make a frame
for the picture. As she told me this, I realized that she was interested in making frames,
so I told her we could make colorful frames next week with popsicle stick. As I said this
she got really excited and said that she couldnt wait till next week. This aspect gave me
an idea towards making frames with the children for this activity.

Learning Experience: Creative Making frames with popsicle sticks, glue, markers and
other decorative materials
I am organizing this sensory learning experience at the sensory table with a 4 baskets
filled with popsicle sticks, bottles of glue and decorative materials at the middle of the
table. Im going to organize the table with four chairs so the more children are able to
create colorful frames with decorative materials.
Objectives:
1. The children will develop 5.3 Fine Motor skills from the Physical Domain as they
have the opportunity to use their palmer and pincer grasps to glue the popsicles
sticks together make theyre frames and decorate them with decorative materials.
2. The children will also further develop 1.6 Cooperating Skills from the Social
Domain as the children have the opportunity to cooperate with their peers while
exchanging popsicle sticks, glue and decorative materials amongst each other.
3. The children will also further develop 1.9 Interacting with Adults Skills from the
Social domain as the children have the opportunity to interact with the adults if
they need any assistance towards gluing their the popsicle sticks together to make
frames.
Materials:
1 table
4 chairs
4 bowls filled with popsicle sticks
Bottles of glue
Bowls filled with pompoms, feathers and markers
Implementation:
1. I will set up the bowls of popsicles sticks, glue and decorative materials at the
table with four chairs. .
2. I will invite the children to try the activity of making decorative frames.
3. I will show them how to glue the popsicle sticks together to make the frame.
4. Throughout the activity, I will provide as much conversation with them to know
how they are going to decorate the frames.
Teaching Strategies:

Sensory Engagement:
Throughout the activity, children will gain first hand experiences as they have the
opportunity to use their palmer and pincer grasps to glue the popsicle sticks together to
make colorful frames.

Modeling:
As the children approach to the table to try the activity, I will show them how to glue the
popsicle sticks together to make a frame and help them decorate it with pompoms,
feathers and markers.
