Classroom Procedures

General Procedures

1. Beginning of hour: Students are expected to be in their assigned seats before the bell

rings. Students will have a class calendar in which they will automatically begin filling

out with the objectives for the day and will do so quietly.

a. Tardy students: tardy students will have their name written down on the tardy

sheet in which 3 tardies will result in the loss of the opportunity to win a prize at

the end of the week. Late students will need a note from a teacher or the office.

b. Attendance: attendance will be taken after calendars have been filled out to allow

for all late students to get ready and be accounted for.

c. Previously absent students: absent students will read the calendar board to fill in

their calendars and acquire all of the assignments they missed. Questions can be

directed towards me or a table partner.

d. Behavior: students are expected to be quiet during lecture, but are encouraged to

ask questions, participate, and politely contribute to discussions. The environment

is expected to be fun and welcoming.

2. Out-of-room policies: students are encouraged to show school spirit by supporting their

peers and supervisors and behave in manner that would reflect positivity towards them

and their school.

3. Materials: students will be expected to bring a binder that contains sections for their

calendar, current assignments, study guides, and specific graded assignments or tests that

are useful tools. A notebook, a pen, and a pencil.

a. What to bring to class: the students are expected to bring a sharpened pencil, a

pen, a notebook, and their binder containing all of the necessary resources.

b. Pencil sharpener: pencils are expected to be sharpened before class, such as

during calendar time, or after reading/lectures before they get started on the

assignments.

c. Room equipment: students do not need to ask permission to access room

equipment that is specified for them such as rulers, markers, colored pencils, glue,

etc., however, they are only allowed to access them when work time has started or

the assignments permits them.

d. Teachers possessions: Students will ask permission to use my pens, stapler,

paper, pencils, etc., and will be asked to return them at the end of the hour.

4. End of period: students will have one minute to pack up their belongings and get settled

in their seats in which they will wait for the bell to release them. If they are not settled, I

will release them when they are ready.

5. Seat-Work and Instruction Procedures

a. Student attention: students will be quiet during lectures and readings, but are

welcome to ask engaging questions to further understand and develop discussion.

b. Student participation: students will participate in discussion, play a role in

reading by either volunteering or by picking sticks, and work with partners.

Students who do not feel comfortable can be accommodated by showing

completed work or working with partners.

6. Seat-Work Procedures: students will be expected to quietly work with partners or

groups when ask and will treat partners with respect whether it is group work or not.
a. Talk among students: after the lesson, students are allowed to talk to each other

respectfully, and a fun environment is encouraged. Noise level will be managed

by me to keep it at a moderate level.

b. Obtaining help: students will raise their hand quietly to ask for help but will wait

until they are called on.

topic. Students can also give a thumbs down when they still do not understand. All

thumbs up will mean we are ready to move on.

be an excuse for students to talk or be out of their assigned seats. They will remain silent

and seated.
