Activity 1. Objective of Lesson on Solar System:

This is topic is set to be the first discussion of the Solar System
Part 1: Relation of Earth, Moon and Sun; Tour of the Solar System
discussing the planets
Part 2: Brief history of space exploration from the first events
until present day

2. Activities for Students and Teachers:

Classroom Ice Breaker activity to open the topic. Use the
students to represent celestial bodies and how they move about
each other. One student in the center as the sun, another
revolving around the sun as Earth, and a third to revolve around
the Earth at the same time, and repeat for additional planets and
their moons. Will not have enough students to represent all of
the Natural Moons in the Solar System, but a small bunch can be
used for Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus
Each presentation has built in videos to assist with the discussion
topics.
o Teacher will discuss short intro, play video, then lead
discussion with students on the historical events or of the
Solar System member presented in video
Pedagogy

o Pre-video discussion to held for Solar System members to

gauge where the students level of knowledge or
understanding is
 Each presentation has fill in the chart/table activities to work on
phases of moon, effects of moon, and some of the history topics
o Handouts will be provided for adding to students study
notes
o Filling out each worksheet will be completed in groups and
each group will present a section or phase to the class,
discussing the phase and impact for the Moon Charts

Laptop/Desktop/Tablet used to drive presentation and
Interactive White Board
Interactive White Board Display presentation and allow for
teacher or student interaction with activities
