Music is easy, we can listen to it, we can learn how to play music instruments, we can

sing it. It is a universal experience. Without music we wouldnt be able to express creativity,

thoughts, feelings. The brain allows us to live and it controls our thoughts, feelings and

creativity, without it wed be nothing. When the brain is in the musical world, music controls the

brain in an unexplainable manner. Advances in neuroscience have introduced a theory on the

effects music has on the brain, and it is a concept being uncovered today. There is evidence and

findings that suggests that music improves mood, attitude or even beliefs. But there is an

underlying sheet being explored. Music can influence creativity and develop the way we think.

Although there may be other well-known factors that can affect the way the brain

functions and can alter creativity, such as experience, desire, environment, personality etc., there

is not enough to be explored at a neuroscience level. There has been countless of experiments

and extensive research done on the brain specifically on the effects of music. There is a certain

area of the brain that lights up and another part of the brain that completely shuts off that is

called the self-monitoring area, and the area of the brain that is engaged is the self-

expression area. This self-expression area relates to language and language relates to

expressive communication. All of this relates to creativity. Music is a language, theres a

neurological basis to it and with-it creativity is enhanced. In music, there are melodies that are

made up of motifs and these make up patterns which can be built on. This pattern formation is

connected to the way we think, like in language. Phonemes that create syllables that form words.

Improvisation is a fast process that the brain can undergo through to create rhythms and

beats and lyrics. It can be done with musical instruments and rap and other ways. The brain can

flow through a wire that spits out creativity. Rappers like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Nas can

improvise and make up lyrics that all rhyme and make sense. They are proof that with music
their brain lights up their creative side. More proof on this would be the scientific findings Dr.

Limbs conducted by analyzing the brain activity during musical improvisation using a highly-

advanced MRI scan. Limb improvised on the piano while under the MRI scan, and he also

played the piano with a musical number he learned and memorized. The MRI scan showed that

when he improvised, his self-expression area was engaged while his self-monitoring was

shut off. When he played the musical number he memorized, his self -expression area was

slightly lit and his self-monitoring was engaged. Having to focus more while playing music

opens up your creative side but not as much when improvising.

The features in music link to the features in language. These features allow music to

improve and shape language. With language, creativity can be expressed. Music can to process

language at a fast rate compared to no music is interfered. In a study that Sylvian Moreno

performed, he found that with music, it can facilitate increased and faster communication

between the brains hemisphere. This gives the brain power to perform complex movements and

thoughts which relate to creativity. In a special experience that a professional violinist Robert

Gupta had with a talented schizophrenia friend, he learned that music formed a language within

the mind of his friend and his delusions and negative behavior were put to sleep, and he was able

to calmly play the violin with charm. His friends creativity was shining through his mental

illness. This is the power of music that can form a language and rewire the brain to express.

Studies in which have observed the brains of musicians and non-musicians have also

found the effects music has on creativity and language. With musical training, the brain

processes thinking, composing, and formation at a faster pace. There is a significant difference

between non-musicians and musicians, where musicians are more creative than non-musicians.

Intensive training increases communication and creativity. The more advanced communication,
the more creative. In an experiment that David Beckstead explored, he observed music from an

educational environment. His research found that the distinct cognitive area was larger in

musicians than non-musicians. This area expresses learning and language. This also exhibits

stronger activation than non-musicians in areas associated with language processing.

Music can modify the brain at a structural, functional and emotional level. These levels

can form the brains creative side and enhance language. The connection between music and

language and creativity is being approached by a scientific manner, with MRI scans,

neuropsychological testing and ERPs the brain can be explored and how music interferes the

brain functions. Improvisation and musical training are ways that can get singers and musicians

and listeners to express quicker and imaginatively. Music is a powerful element that can adapt

the brain and reprogram language at a faster pace and intensify creativity.
