Students Baseline Knowledge and Skills (Pre-Assessment)


The goal for this lesson is to explore the different parts to a fruit and vegetable. I want the students to be
skilled at distinguishing the differences between the two as it will be an aid to meeting their daily nutritional
needs. I will ask the preschoolers if they knew that vegetables and fruits come from different parts of a plant.
Based on their response, I will be able to proceed with to the YouTube clip From a Seed to a Flower and an
opening discussion.

Lesson Procedures

Opening

The instructor will show a short YouTube clip about the parts of the plant and then explain that the edible
parts of the plant are known as vegetables and fruits. The instructor will help the preschoolers understand the
difference between a fruit and vegetable by leading them through a series of questions like Do apples have
seeds? Does broccoli have seeds?

Middle
Instructional Delivery Instructional Differentiation

The preschoolers will play and sing along to a song called the Vegetable Multiple intelligence
Song by The Singing Walrus from YouTube so that they may get excited Visual
about the vegetables they learned about. Afterwards, the instructor will Kinesthetic
discuss the vegetables that were named in the song and ask the students Auditory
what part of the plant that vegetable is. The preschoolers will be able to Psycho-motor Domain

items as well as fruit.

Closure

After identifying the fruits and vegetables, the preschoolers will receive a I can eat a whole plant worksheet
along with food samples to categorize. (Broccoli, spinach, celery, carrot, sunflower kernel). I will quickly
state a fun fact that the sunflower seed is the fruit of the flower and the edible part is what is inside (kernel).
The preschoolers will be successful in understanding the differences between each given vegetable as well as
consider other vegetables and fruit that may come from the grocery store, garden, or farmers market.
