To Whom it May Concern:

In this last year, I had been keeping my eye on potential leadership openings in the SAU 15 school community in
which I live and where my children attend school, so as you can imagine, I was beyond thrilled to learn about this
prospective opportunity to be part of the Auburn School Districts administrative team as Instructional Coach,
where I may use my experience and my extensive knowledge of best practices to improve instruction and student
achievement. I have been an educator in the public school system for more than 15 years, and I have much time,
effort and education invested in student learning, and I am confident in my ability to take on this new challenge
and shift in my career.

After earning my Masters degree in education with a concentration in Literacy K-12 through the University of
New England, I knew that my role in education would eventually change. My graduate work opened doors for me
and prepared me to become a leader. Wanting to employ my new leadership skills, I turned to my grade level
team; I shared my new resources and research findings at grade level meetings or during informal meetings with
my colleagues. This year, I had the opportunity to share the literacy coach position with my colleague. Knowing
that at some point in my career, I would seek a leadership position, I decided to pursue a CAGS through the
Reading Specialist/Literacy Coach K-12 program at UNE. To further my knowledge as an educational leader, I am
now currently enrolled in the universitys Advanced Educational Leadership CAGS program. I am a lifelong
learner. The programs at UNE have been instrumental in preparing me for the skills that instructional leaders
require, including researching and evaluating instructional programs, coaching teachers to provide effective
instruction, organizing professional development, utilizing technology and organizing/analyzing data to inform
and plan for instruction and appropriate interventions.

In my practices as a classroom teacher, I have achieved great success in increasing student performance in both
reading and math as evidenced by NWEA, DIBELS, and formative assessments. Furthermore, I also have first-hand
experience with the administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessments, and the preparation that it requires.
Ive recently taken part in a workshop in which I had the opportunity to thoroughly review Smarter Balanced
Performance Tasks and score exemplars. Additionally, at our recent literacy coach meetings, we discussed
strategies that even K-2 teachers could employ in their practices to help prepare their students. As instructional
coach, I will draw on these experiences to guide teachers as they prepare their own students for success.

The knowledge and experience I have gained through my coursework and through my community of dedicated
teachers, administrators and staff is beyond words; I am thoroughly prepared to work with administrators and
classroom teachers to guide and improve instruction and ultimately, student achievement. Please feel free to
peruse my professional portfolio. I look forward to discussing my qualifications with you in greater detail. Thank
you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Cote
