Philosophy of Education

I remember the difficulty I had when I was in elementary school. Learning in another

language that was not my first language was challenging. I remember that my parents supported

me by providing me with the materials necessary, such as dictionaries to do my homework.

However, now I understand that this was not enough. The support of my teacher played a major

role in having been successful in my education. I now understand this after taking several

bilingual education courses at the University of St. Thomas, and working as an ESL teacher.

There are teaching methods, strategies, and techniques that bilingual teachers can utilize in their

classrooms. These strategies can help their students whose primary language is not English, as

well as other students who want to learn a second language, learn effectively and become

successful. My philosophy of dual language education is based on these facts, and beliefs.

Therefore, my philosophy of dual Language education is that all students, regardless of culture or

language, must acquire the second language skills necessary for academic success and ultimately

for success in a global, multicultural, and multilingual society.
