In case structural or other works are ongoing close-by,

1.5m Trail pit to be done manually to identified any


underground utilities services and protection for the
exposed undergound services should be provided.
Banks man shall be deployed to guide the
Shovel/Bobcat operator about any services for further
excavation. At all
stages of the excavation, a competent person must
supervise the work and the workers given clear Site Engr/HSE
instructions on working safely in the excavation. 1 2 2 Officer/Supervisor
Third party certified /Foreman
excavator and operator shall be deployed for
excavation works. PTW shall be
applied prior excavation which must be signed by
authorized issuer, receiver and safety officer of the
area. Toolbox talks to
be conducted on hazards associated with Excavation
activity and its control measures.
Shoring should be in place if depth of trench exceeds
more than 2m. Operative
should ensure that shoring etc has been done to
his/her satisfaction before descending into trench &
gain access only by suitable access equipment.
Excavations must not be
adjacent to buildings and heavy plant kept away from
edges. Stop blocks should be placed behind wheels
of vehicles tipping into excavation. Do not store
materials, waste materials or plant adjacent to
excavation. Ensure proper use of PPE such as
hand gloves, safety shoes & helmets.

Area must have 1.5M high Hard brricades and fencing


erected at a safe distance away from the excavation.
Shoring should be in
place if depth of trench exceeds more than 2m.
Use warnings and
sign boards.Ensure proper PPE such as hand gloves,
safety shoes & helmets.

Area must have 2M high Heras fencing erected at a


safe distance away from the excavation. Fall
prevention barriers shall be erected around
excavation. Stop
blocks installed at a safe distance from excavation
preventing vehicles from falling into excavation. PPE
Hard hats & Safety shoes to be worn.

Safe access by ladders to be ensured.


If plant is being used above the trench then no
operatives should be in the trench when the machine
is in use. At
all stages of the excavation, a competent person must
supervise the work and the workers given clear
instructions on working safely in the excavation.

Proper tast lighting should be arranged.


No work shall be allowed due to poor
illumination, rain and sand storms.

Ensure proper PPE'S are worn by all the workers,


working at such places.
Ensure Permit to Work (PTW) system followed at
such locations.
NO equipment or vehicles should park nearby the
excavation .

materials along the edge of the excavation.Ensure the
use of PPE like hard hats, helmets, gloves, safety

drinks and water

Barricade the area & Provide proper slgnage,
