important for the whanau of Ngati Kere
to know what decisions have been made for
the benefit of the Marae and Hapu.
With the new Trustees the distribution of this
information has been through emailing the
minutes to members of the hapu with that
have provided email addresses.
This has proven difficult as people change
email addresses and only those who have
provided updated emails are receiving the
information.
Another issue has been that the minutes
distribution has meant the Marae
Administrator has received many enquiries
regarding items in the minutes, as these are
not verbatim.
At a recent trustee meeting it was decided to
create a newsletter that would cover the
outcomes of the trustees meetings as well as
items on recently held events, upcoming
events and happenings at the Marae and
around the community.

publication.
Other groups working on behalf of the hapu
such as the Ngati Kere MACA Working Party,
The Hapu Structure working party and others Heretaunga Tamatea Settlement
have also been asked to provide updates for Trust

the highlights at the Marae were:

Visit from Marama Fox The Waka Ama noho was held with practice
Flemington School noho races being held on Taure kaitai awa down by
He Ngahuru Reo the jetty. This was the first time Te Wananga
of Aotearoa have been to Porangahau but

Maori Womens Welfare League hold regular

bi-monthly craft days at the Marae. These
are great days for learning new hand-crafts
while enjoying the company of some of our
wonder kuia. Keep an eye on the Marae
calendar for the next one and if you can
come along.

He Ngahuru Reo is a wananga organised by

the Marae Trustees to support the
revitalization of Te Reo in Ngati Kere. These
wananga have been run through the koha of
time and resources of the Kaiako thank you
Helena and Pakake Winiata and Ahuriri
Houkamau.

Marama Fox visited the Marae to talk to the

whanau about the Mori Party and what they
can offer the people.

Summary of Trustee Sept/Oct/Nov 2017 Hui
Heaters in Wharenui are not safe with
some not working at all. Decision to
replace all heating before next winter.
Quotes and funding options being
looked into.
CHB Council asking to ID wahi-tapu sites
on their maps. This information has
already been provided to them and they
were again reminded that Ngati Kere
boundary from Whangaehu to Kairakau
and they need to contact the Trustees
before undertaking any work within
these boundaries.
Marae is participating in a Bulk
Insurance proposal being put together
by Bonnie Parkes of Cole Murray. This
should provide the Marae with reduced
insurance premiums. Currently the
Marae is not insured as the premiums
were unaffordable.
There is an opportunity to join hapu
members, friends and others to a group
funeral insurance scheme. This would
provide members with $15k for funeral
expenses. The premiums would be
worked out on the number of people
joining. If you are interested in joining
this scheme please email

occupation. There will be no obligation
on your part until the premium is
known.
Ablution block plans have been finalized
at a cost of $12k. This money is being
raised through a raffle, The next step
will start shortly which is an application
to council for consent.

There was a working party that meet
with the council regarding the Oxidation
Ponds. Currently there is only one
member left in the district and the
trustees put out an expression of CURRENT TRUSTEES
interest from those that might be
interested in being on this group. If you

Omahu land to slove with the HBRC.

And the PSGE. Well, Reihana gave me a

good run in the election and you can see by
the numbers who voted that Ngti Kere are
still the biggest grouping in the rohe. Approx
of of our people voted and thats great!
We now have the Conditions for the $1m
distribution sorted and we will proceed
carefully and make sure that Marae are well
armed when they receive this money. The
Governance training will come up next year 2
weekends and 3 extra half days for a full
Certificate in Mori Governance. Now ts true
its not all about money for the PSGE at the
moment it is about getting ready for the
money. We have a solid Board, and now we
need:

a Strategic Plan
a professional Investment Advisory
Group
a Cultural Redress Framework
a Board Review
