Course/Subject L3 Creative Media Unit 5: Investigating audio production and technology

Awarding Body: UAL

Course Aims:
To develop students abilities to critically analyse and integrate knowledge and understanding acquired in previuos units and to investigate the
specific skills and attributes required for creative production and technology in audio-based media platforms.

On completion of this unit a learner should:


1. Be able to analyse an audio-based problem in creative media production.
2. Be able to use an integrated approach to audio-based creative media problem solving and production.
3. Be able to evaluate solutions to an audio-based problem in creative media production.

Homework to be set weekly and returned to students within 10 working days.

Students are given the opportunity to clarify, develop, and challenge their own values and attitudes. Resources and materials are not gender
specific and refer equally to he/she: scenario activities use a wide range of names and promote diversity; activities are varied and are aimed at
maximising the potential of learners. Worksheets are produced using dyslexic friendly fonts, (Comic Sans/Arial); sight/hearing impaired students are
appropriately positioned in order to maximise potential. Optional trips are aimed at providing equal opportunities for all and operate on a low cost
basis.

Students to create new tabs on their Weebly


pages and register for a SoundCloud
account.

Teacher to read through brief with students.


Students to begin mind-mapping ideas for
productions.

Lesson 2

Students to listen to three examples on Viibe


and make notes with a partner using the
listening task sheet. Sheets to be uploaded to
Weebly.

Extension task for any students that finish


early.

The importance of sound. Students to listen to


the example and complete the written task.

Class to watch the Secret World of Foley.

Teacher to go through Foley presentation


and introduce task.

Lesson 4

Students to work on recording Foley sounds.


They must video themselves making the
sounds and upload these videos.

Lesson 5 & 6

Codes and conventions of Radio Drama.

Class to listen to Torchwood clip followed by


class discussion.

Conventions presentation. Students to start
work on Task 1 and complete during lesson 6.
