to pass out to students so that they may start writing when finished drawing

Intern establishes links with prior learning and experiences.
Intern arranges learning activities to support standards.
Intern appropriately uses a variety of teaching styles.
Comments: Began with turn and talk about Thanksgiving to activate prior knowledge, also activated prior knowledge about
quilts. Shared about how students celebrate Thanksgiving, then read a story about how Tuyet celebrates Thanksgiving.
Briefly compared Tuyets and students ways of celebrating Thanksgiving- spend another moment here emphasizing how
there may be differences because we come from different backgrounds or have different traditions(your standard). Students
drew their Thanksgiving tradition on a quilt square and wrote about what they drew. Nice job having students share with
their table, then went into class discussion about differences among our Thanksgiving traditions.

4. Instruction - Instructional Monitoring

Intern circulates to check performance and monitor progress.
Intern varies level of questioning.
Intern ensures that all students have the opportunity to participate.
Comments: Used turn and talk to allow all students to share about Thanksgiving, circulated while students drew on their

traditions.

celebrates Thanksgiving differently(reinforcing the objective)

6. Evaluation/Assessment - Instructional Feedback

Intern provides feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work to encourage student growth.
Intern affirms correct oral responses appropriately and moves on.
Intern provides sustaining feedback after an incorrect response by probing, repeating the question, giving a clue,
or allowing more time.
Comments: Repeated what students said for all to hear and validate their sharing, affirmed student responses, provided
specific praise for students drawings(That sounds like so much fun), probed students about their drawings for
them to further explain how they celebrate Thanksgiving
Strengths: Areas on which to focus:
Had students turn and talk about what Thanksgiving is- Spend another moment talking about similarities and
allowed students to share what they talked about with their differences between Tuyets Thanksgiving tradition and
partner between students traditions- this is the objective of your
Reminded students to show their bubbles while you read lesson
story aloud Make sure students are listening when you give your
Set up the story by telling the class that you would be directions or when others are sharing, maybe a silent
reading about how Tuyet celebrated Thanksgiving reminder would help
Showed the story Duck for Thanksgiving on the Have students put away crayons and pencils when sharing
SmartBoard for students to see while you read aloud- nice about different Thanksgiving celebrations so they can listen
job reading with inflection!
Had discussion after the story about similarities between
story and what students previously shared about
Thanksgiving
Asked students what a quilt is to activate prior knowledge-
showed a picture of a quilt, then stated that students would
help to make quilt squares to make a class quilt-
What do you think Tuyet would draw on her square?-
great question to connect story to quilt activity!
You modeled what you would draw on your quilt square
and why you drew it
Clear directions for what to draw on quilt square
I love how you are raising your hand to share- good job
using praise to draw attention to appropriate behavior
Explained about writing portion of activity so that students
could move right into this after drawing
Nice job waiting for students to show readiness before
calling their row to come get a quilt square- praise students
as they move back to seats
Nice job praising students who were following directions on
their quilt squares as a way to maintain expectations
Nice job having student go back to his seat and raise his
hand before answering his question
Great job working with Ben about coloring his heart and
getting him to do his quilt square too
Changed writing prompt for those not celebrating
Thanksgiving(What are you thankful for) or maybe they
could also write how others celebrate Thanksgiving?
Great idea to have students share their drawings with their
tables- may help to provide a little more structure for doing
this(pick one student to start then point direction to go
around to share)
Great job going back to groups and asking how certain
students celebrate- to follow up and assess student work
Did everyone have the same celebrations? great
question to emphasize how all celebrations were different-
had a few students share- after a student shared, asked
the class if others celebrate the same way
Why do you think we all have different celebrations on
Thanksgiving? used this to explain that we all come
from different backgrounds/cultures
I love how Yuridias table is sitting so quietly while they are
waiting to put away crayons!- great reminder of
expectations! Use this more!

Were the learning outcomes for the students met? YES NO

Did the interns/student teachers classroom management support the learning outcomes?
Yes. Waited on students to show readiness before continuing, reminded students to raise hands(had them return to seats
and raise hands when they wanted to get up to share), used some praise to remind of expectations- you can do this more
and more!
