The Massage Therapy Program is a 25 or 32 week curriculum (a minimum of


500 hours of instructional time) plus 100 hours of externship, which
consists of both front office skills and massage modalities. Every student is
expected to meet all course requirements before being eligible for
completion.
REQUIREMENTS:
A High School Diploma or GED certificate is REQUIRED at registration.
Students must bring their high school diploma or GED certificate by the first
day of class for verification or you will be dropped from the class.
If your diploma was earned OUTSIDE the United States you must obtain an
evaluation of foreign documents. For a list of approved locations, please
see Clerical Staff. Evaluation report must be provided before the
start of the program.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of the Massage Therapy Program is to provide students with the
appropriate educational theory and hands-on skills required and necessary to
prepare them for entry-level positions as a Massage Therapist. Students will
study the structure and functions of the major body systems in conjunction
with massage modalities.

DEPOSIT: $500.00* required upon registration
PAYMENTS:
You are required to make a payment in every module (monthly). Balance
must be paid by the completion date of the instructional part of the program
(500 hours). Failing to pay balance in full by completion date will
result in an immediate Administrative Withdrawal.

Payments can be made in M-106 during the following hours:


Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.

REFUNDS:
Student MUST have a receipt. Refunds will only be accepted within the first
three days of class, whether attended or not. Student initiated refunds will
be reduced by a 15% processing fee. To receive a refund, a student must
complete a Refund Request Form from the front office. Once the form is
completed by the student, it must be approved by Administration. Once
approved, the refund request form is processed. The refund check will be
mailed to the student within 4-6 weeks.

FAILING/REPEATING MODULES:
You must pass every module successfully by completing all course required
hours, passing grades and balance paid in full, in order to be eligible to go
onto externship. Only one module may be repeated, upon approval from
the Program Coordinator/Instructor. Failure to successfully complete program
will result in an immediate Administrative Withdrawal.

ATTENDANCE:
The programs are divided into modules. In the 25 week program there are
five modules, five weeks per module. In the 32 week program there are
eight modules, four weeks per module. Students are expected to attend
class every class session. Make-up work will only be allowed with instructors
prior approval. You will be marked tardy if you arrive after 10 minutes from
the start of class. If you arrive after 30 minutes from the start of class you
will be marked ABSENT! If you leave earlier than 45 minutes before the end
of class you will be marked ABSENT!

All Massage Therapy students are required to complete 500 hours of


classroom instruction.

25/32 week program:


4 tardies/leave early = 1 absence
4 absences = FAIL and the repeating of that module (3 absences ONLY
per module)

Your appearance is to be respectful (professional) at all times. During lab time your
instructor may change the dress code according to the activities or lesson plan.

**Students that do not follow dress code will be dismissed from


class and therefore marked absent for that day.**

INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD:

* Students are responsible for getting the lecture and homework for any day
missed. Work not turned in on time will not receive full credit.

EXTERNSHIP:
Preparation will begin immediately after the students last module is
completed and the class fee is paid in full. Student must be placed for
externship 30 days after their last module has been completed. 100 hours
are REQUIRED in order to get your diploma for the program. Students are
placed based on facility availability and student/facility compatibility to be
determined by instructor. Students are not promised a facility of their choice
but we will work with students to accommodate requests. In rare cases, an
externship placement might not happen the 1st day after completing the
training program.

ALL BALANCES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE YOU CAN BE SENT


FOR EXTERNSHIP.

PROFESSIONALISM:
Students will be at ALL times professional with instructors, classmates, staff,
any abusive language, harassment, threats, or intimidation will NOT BE
TOLERATED! Students that do not follow the professionalism code will be
dismissed from class and therefore absent and, after counseling, may be
dismissed from the program/school.

STUDENT TRANSFERS:
Student transfers to or from the Massage Therapy program to another
program at Downey Adult School must be approved by the instructor and the
Director of the program. If the student is receiving assistance from an
agency, the student may need to get permission from that agency. Once
approved, a new registration must be completed. If the student transfers
within the first week of classes the pro-rated deposit will be transferred. If
the transfer occurs after the first week the deposit will be prorated based on
the amount of time in the program plus books and supplies. The Massage
