Introduction
Experiment 5.1 The Wye-Wye Three-Phase Transformer Bank

Procedure

Step 1: Connect the circuit shown in figure 5.8. Neutral connection will not be used. Use
the fixed output of the power supply as your power source. The single-phase
transformer ratio to be used is 1:1 and R1=R2=R3= 600 Ohms.
Step 2; Find out both phase and line currents at primarys and secondarys windings.
Step 3: Connect the AC voltmeters according to the measurements you need to make.
Step 4: Turn on the power supply and complete the columns marked as Y-Y in the
Table 5.1.
Step 5: Turn off the power supply.

Question 1: In case of Figure 5.2b, Figure 5.2c, which is safe, connected.

Question 2: Figure 5.4b and Figure 5.4c are incorrect and Figure 5.4d is correct. Can
you explain the reasons?

Question 3: Which figure (Figure 5.5b or Figure 5.5c) is right connected so the voltage
system is balanced?
Question 4: Which one (Figure 5.6a or Figure 5.6b) is agreed with the American
standards?
Experiment 5.2 The Wye-Delta Three-Phase Transformer Bank

Procedure

Step 1: Connect the circuit shown in figure 5.8. Neutral connection will not be used. Use
the fixed output of the power supply as your power source. The single-phase
transformer ratio to be used is 1:3 . The 120V winding is the primary and the 208V
winding is the secondary.
R1=R2=R3= 600 Ohms
L1=L2=L3= 300 Ohms
Step 2: Substitute the AC ammeters by the marked lead.
Step 3: Connect the AC voltmeters according to the measurements you need to make.
Step 4: Turn on the power supply and complete the columns marked as Y- in the
Table 5.1.
Step 5: Turn off the power supply.
Experiment 5.3 The Delta-Wye Three-phase Transformer Bank

Procedure

Step 1- Connect the circuit shown in Figure 5.14. Neutral connection will not be used.
Use the variable output of the power supply as your power source. The single-phase
transformer ratio to be used is 3: 1 Adjust the power supply line-to-line voltage to
120V. R=600 ohm and L=300 ohm.
Step 2- Measure the secondary windings line and phase currents. Also measure the
primary windings line and phase currents
Step 3- Connect the AC voltmeters according to the measurements you need to make
Step 4- Turn on then power supply and complete the columns marked as Delta-Y in the
Table 5.1
Step 5- Turn off the power supply
Experiment 5.4 The Delta-Delta Three-Phase Transformer Bank

Procedure

Step 1- Connect the circuit shown in Figure 5.12 Neutral connection will not be used.
Use the foxed output of the power supply as your power source. The single-phase
transformer ratio to be used is 3: 1 R1=R2=R3=85.7 ohm
CautionThe delta should never be closed until a test is first made to determine that
the voltage within the delta is zero. If not and the delta is closed on itself, the resulting
current will be of Short-Circuit magnitude with resulting damage to the transformers.
Step2- Substitute the AC ammeter by the marked leads (one at a time)
Step3- Connect the AC voltmeters according to the measurements you need to make
Step 4- Turn the power supply and complete the columns marked as delta-delta in the
table 5.1
Step 5- Turn off the power supply
