Analytical Paper

Throughout the tour of the Yeh Gallery, I noticed many pieces of art that were

abstract, creative and also photographic. We even observed a very interesting piece of art that

consisted of various piece of clothing all intertwined into one. I then decided that I wanted to

chose an artwork that was more than just superficially intriguing, I wanted to ultimately speak on

something that expressed my social and personal views. Therefore, I chose to write this paper on

The Runners With Cheetah created by Emma Amos. This work of art shines light on

intersectional feminism, the likeness of the beauty of the cheetah and the beauty of women, and

lastly the importance of the use of material.

As shown in the picture, there are three women competing in a race. The painter visually

created distress and determination in their faces to show their resistance of defeat. The act alone

of participating in track and field, requires not only physical strength but mental endurance as

well. Its an ultimate test of how far you can go without crumbling and reach your ultimate

destination. Specifically, Emma Amos did not include in the painting the actual finish line, as a

possible indication that these women are running towards equity of the sexes, yet it will continue

to be a continuous quest.
The idea of running towards equality and equity is not the only representation of women

empowerment represented in The Runners with Cheetah. The fastest animal on the earth, the

cheetah, embodies the greatest amount of beauty here. Cheetahs exude massive beauty and

withhold a sense of dominance. The cheetah is also aware of her strengths and knows how to

properly utilize her weaknesses. All of these attributes are the ingredients of to the recipe of

women from all over.

The Runners with Cheetah was created with acrylic and hand on fabric on linen. I

believe the artist used this specific material for this creation because it durable and strong, just

like the women represented. In addition, because the linen material is more-so fabric-like, the

artist could have been insinuating that we are still cut from the same cloth. No matter what race,

sexual orientation or ethnicity, we all have the same blood.

Overall, this artwork embodies the empowerment of women. It acknowledges their

strengths, their beauty and their endurance. It highlights the importance

of Gods creation and ones reasoning for their placement on earth. It shows that they too, can

achieve what is destined for man and will continue in their fight to receive that undermining

credibility.
