Lesson idea implementation:

Students will be presented my video as a large group. It will be initially teacher led, until the students are
released to create their own iMovie based off of the same topic. Students can work in pairs or individually. The
iMovie will need to be 3 minutes long, have some sort or music or audio, an imbedded video, and an intro and
closing. Students have much choice in what they create. When they are done they will post their video on the
class blog/website for others to view. Students will evaluate the projects of other students. Teachers will
facilitate students during the time they get to create the movie in class.

Students will be assessed from the content they have and effort into the project. Students will vote on their
favorite presentation, the winner collects a prize.

Importance of technology:
This project can be completed without the technology but I personally believe that it would not be nearly as
enticing or meaningful for the students. Furthermore there is a win-win situation as the it helps learning and
also incorporates use of technology to students. It will be more beneficial to students who have never
created/encountered iMovie previously. Rather than creating a presentation in the traditional way such as
PowerPoint, this demonstrates to students that there are multiple ways to present a projects or material.
Without using the technology, I do not believe the project would be worth pursuing as it would decrease
interest and more meaningful learning.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and
student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you would (1)
minimize risks to students/yourself; (2) alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and (3) follow common
Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies.

Possible issues that could result:

Students do not obey copyright laws and can plagiarize
Students may place information that is inappropriate for the internet and can jeopardize their safety
Students may not get the full learning experience from the project if they create the entire project with
borrowed elemens
Preventions:
Send flyer home with parents about the project so that they can be aware and monitor
Explicitly discuss the issues and consequences of safety and infringement
Thoroughly check each students presentation before making it public- make setting so that it is
reviewed prior to it being posted
