Activity With this activity, students will create a comic strip showing
how Europeans and indigenous peoples exchanged cultures
and ideas. The student will explain how both groups
benefitted/suffered from these exchanges.

The teacher will go over major exchanges, such as the


transmission of diseases, crops and livestock. At least one of
those three elements must be included in every project.

The student has the freedom to be specific with which


exchange he or she would like to address. It is the students
job to bring this encounter to life and provide his or her
rendition of what the interactions were like as the SOL calls
for.

Each comic must have pictures and words telling a story of the
exchange. The students will refrain from inappropriate diction
within their projects: no profanity. The student will be
realistic within reason in their descriptions. The assignment
may be organized however the student wishes, as long as it is

apparent and clear that there is reference to each specific


interaction among groups (Europeans and Africans, Europeans
and American Indians).
