INTODUCTION TO THE STUDY

Management helps in attaining the goals through co-ordination and


controls management is the art of getting done through others. Thus
management requires human resource for achieving company goals

Human resource is the most important element in organization


management consists of guiding of human resource in a dynamic and cutting
manner to satisfy group objectives. The relevance of employees absenteeism
arises in this context.

According to Websters dictionary Absent is the practice of habit of being an


absent is one who habitually stays away according to employee bureau
absenteeism is the total man shift loss because of absent percentage of total
number of man shift scheduled to work. In other words it signifies the absence
of an employee from work when he is scheduled to be at work it is unauthorized,
unexplained avoidable and wilful absence from work. For calculating the rate of
absenteeism to fact are taken in consideration in number of person scheduled to
work and number actually present. An employee consider scheduled to work
when the employer has work available and employee is aware of it, and when the
employer has no reason to accept when in advance that the employee will not be
available for work at the required time. Any employee may stay away from work
if he is entitled, or on the ground of sickness or some accident, or without any
previous sanction of leave, thus absence may be authorized or unauthorized,
wilful by circumstances beyond once control.

termination of the individuals employment. This is generally governed by the
organizations attendances policy.

Definition: An employees deliberate or habitual absence from work.


Everybody misses a day of work now and then. But its a problem when an
employee misses too many days of work. Not showing up for work can cause
serious problem when other employees have to cover for the missing worker or,
worse, the work simply doesnt get done. Here are keys to controlling
absenteeism in your growing company:
Find out whether the absent employee missed work voluntarily or
involuntarily. Involuntarily means illness or another unavoidable reason
this is the kind of absenteeism you shouldnt concern yourself with as a
manager, unless some kind of counselling or assistance could help the
employee regain his or her health. Voluntary absenteeism is the kind you
need to worry about. This occurs when an employee is absent without good
reason. Get documentation for example, a doctors note to ascertain
whether an absence was involuntary or voluntary.
Decide whether the absenteeism is excessive. Compare the employees
attendance record with other employees records.
