Greenblatt, Alan. "Impact of the Internet on Thinking." CQ Researcher, 24 Sept. 2010, pp. 773-

96, library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/cqresrre2010092400. Accessed on 28 Sept 2017.

This is a reliable website and it is about the internet and thinking. It mentions the constant

use of the internet and the constant access we have to it and how that is an issue. This

constant access can be habit forming and cause people to expect instant replies,

Greenblatt says. The author also makes the point of this access to the internet is causing

more deaths because people are using it and messaging while driving. This site explains

how people are becoming dependent on the internet and their devices and it then effects

their thinking abilities. Yes, the internet has its perks but most kids just use it to scroll on

their social media. That alone takes up 25% of the time spent on the internet in 8-18-year

old's. The internet is always getting faster and smarter so these issues are just going to

rise. This is a reliable website because it came from the libraries CQ researcher page and

it is used to find information on a lot of different topics. The author has many supporting

sources of his own. This has good information and I find it very helpful in my topic

research. The author has also written other informational pieces that are valued. This

source helped me realize some of the pros of internet and social media use and how not

only social media is affected us. But I don't think I am going to put it in my project

because it was a very long article and did have a few sections not relating to my topic.

How Does Media Figure Into the Lives of Kids?: American Academy of PediatricsReaching

Teens. Films Media Group, 2014,

fod.infobase.com/PortalPlaylists.aspx?wID=149262&xtid=114559. Accessed 5 Oct.

2017.

This informational video was about media in the life of kids and teens. It has segments

like 'kids and cell phones', 'media addiction' and 'effects of heavy use'. The video says

kids are sleeping with their phones and not getting enough sleep and not sleeping as well

because they have a "fear of missing out" on something during the night. I think everyone

in my age range sleeps with their phone next to them and I dont know if we've adapted

and it doesnt affect us as much or if it's just the norm. When he talks about media

addiction he says he has patients that say they can't get offline and he even had a kid say

"I'm addicted to Wikipedia" He also says in Asia and Europe they recognize this issue

have and have detox and help centers to provide treatment to these issues. If a person is

using the internet and media excessively and then needs to use it more to feel the same

effect, if they feel with drawl symptoms, or are willing to take the negative consequences

for it like stealing or lying to their parents then these are all signs of addiction. This is a

reliable video because the speaker is a doctor and he has been studying this topic for

years. This video has really good information and a lot of details about the topic. It was

very helpful for me and it was posted in 2016 so it is current and up to date with the

issues and current technologies. I think this video helped the idea that internet addiction

is a rising issue and that the US needs to take control and help people before it gets

worse. I will use this source again for future research and I will use this in my EIP project

because it provided useful and reliable information that isn't outdated.

This article talks about the addiction to social networking sites (SNS) and how they affect

not only teenagers but adults too. These SNS are like communities where people can

interact with others, and be themselves. The article talks about a literature study done

with key words like social network, addiction, compulsive, motivations and,

consequences with this research 5 out of 43 studies found were about SNS addiction.

People say the main usage of a social network is to keep in touch with their friends and

make new ones, and the usage of social networking has increased tremendously over the

years, 30% just from 2009 to 2010, So you wonder how much more its grown since then

to now. It also talks about the different personalities people have with social networking.

People who are introverted and have few offline friends compensate for that with a

social network site like Facebook. A more self-centered person is very active online

because they can be their ideal selves. This is a reliable source because it is a public

health site and has a lot of supporting sources at the end to support the text. I think it was

a very thorough article and very informational. I found it very useful for my topic and it

provided more proof that addiction to social media is real and harmful.

Scott, David A, et al. Mental Health Concerns in the Digital Age . Mental Health Concerns in

the Digital Age, 17 June 2016, link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007%2Fs11469-016-

This journal talks a lot about technology addiction, social media, the youth and how these

can be treated. This had a lot of useful information about technology addiction and how

other countries like Korea are already treating internet addiction and taking it very

seriously. These eastern countries see this as a public health issue and are taking action.

There have been many studies on this addiction and it's been called many different names

like online addiction, technology addiction, pathological internet use and internet

addiction disorder. People are using the internet and technology excessively and more

than ever. This journal explains that social media is a constantly growing and that there

are many positives and also, many negatives. Social media can cause users to feel stress,

anxiety and lowered self-esteem. Social media can also create dependency and addiction

symptoms. It also makes a point that the constant social media use among the youth can

change their values that they think are important. I think this was a very helpful and

reliable source. It was published in 2016 so it is current with today's technology and

issues. It gave me good information and new ideas. It came from an academic journal and

has been reviewed by many other researchers. This journal fit in most with my topic and

had really useful information. I will most likely use this for my topic research project.

-Overall was good, should maybe add how it was helpful or not

-Try not to summarize the article as much

-Talk more about the issue

Schmidt 6

-Could give more examples of specific countries that have said this is an issue

-Think of the audience and how they are not 100% aware of what you are writing about
