Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Problem Gambling Prevention OAR Update
(415-056-0030 through 415-056-0050)

1. Will Prevention Coordinators who have their CPS certification need to complete the Problem
Gambling Prevention Coordinator Training Series?
Most likely no, as the problem gambling coordinators training series includes trainings required
for CPS certification. An exception may be the Problem Gambling 101 course, as this course was
not always offered as part of past prevention cohorts If a coordinator has not taken Problem
Gambling 101, they will need to complete within two years of the effective date of the amended
service element.

2. Will there be required trainings ongoing beyond the Problem Gambling Prevention
Coordinator Training Series?
Yes coordinators will be required to attend a minimum of 15 hours of Oregon Health Authority
Problem Gambling Service approved trainings per biennium separate from the Problem
Gambling Prevention Coordinator Training Series. Whenever possible Problem Gambling
Services will provide scholarships to assist removing barriers to attending trainings.

3. Will the Problem Gambling Prevention Coordinator Training Series, and the minimum 15
hours of ongoing education per biennium offer CEUs that can be utilized with ACCBO toward
the CPS?
Yes Problem Gambling Services will be providing ACCBO approved CEUs for the training series
and the trainings that are sponsored by Problem Gambling Services that can be utilized toward
certification or recertification.

4. Can Problem Gambling Prevention funds (SE 80) still be utilized for program staff/coordinators
seeking the CPS certification?
Yes, Problem Gambling Prevention funds (SE 80) funds can still be utilized for program
staff/coordinators seeking the CPS certification. Problem Gambling Services is no longer
requiring the CPS certification but still supports workforce development and the CPS
certification is a recommended certification for the field.

5. When will the new SE 80 language go into effect?

Updated SE 80 has been submitted for contract amendment. We anticipate implementation for
Spring 2018.

6. What if I completed the CPS cohort but have not tested yet, do I have to take the Problem
Gambling Prevention Coordinator Training Series also?
No, you would only need to take the trainings from the Prevention Coordinator Training Series
that were not covered in the Prevention Cohort. Please make sure to keep your certificates
from the trainings you have attended.

7. What are the components of the Prevention Coordinator Training?

The training series is still underdevelopment, however the topics will cover the following:
problem gambling 101; risk and protective factors; reporting/utilizing data; behavioral health
continuum of care; and prevention framework for planning and evaluation.
