Essential Question: Why should abortions be legal and inexpensive?

Working Thesis: Abortion is still a huge debate in the U.S. Pro-choice and pro-life

organizations protest for the rights of abortion. Any woman should be able to afford to have an

abortion regardless if they are rich, middle-class, or poor. Women are turned away from abortion

clinic because of arriving too late.

Revised Thesis: Every woman should decide whether or not to have an abortion.

On Abortion ProCon.org, it talks about the debate on whether or not abortion should be a

legal option. People who identifies themselves as pro-choice determines that choosing abortion is

a right that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority. People who identifies

themselves as pro-life thinks that personhood begins at conception. Most of these pro-life

positions spring from religious purposes. They think that abortion is the immoral killing of a

human. This debate continues to be an issue in United States even though it was declared as a

fundamental right on January 22, 1973 by the US Supreme Court. This will help me write my

paper because it will let people know the pros and cons of abortion.

Adler, Kayla Webley. What Happens When You Can't Afford an Abortion?

Marie Claire, Kayla Webley Adler, 28 Aug. 2017.

The cost of an abortion can be high but the price varies by clinic and how far along a

pregnancy is. It can also vary by the type of procedure the patient is comfortable with. The

average range is between $500 and $1,500. Many patients can not afford to do this. Seventy-five

percent of abortion patient are low income patients. Oriaku Njoku, an abortion patient, stated that

it is not fair that poor people should have less access to their constitutional rights. Associations

like NNAF and National Abortion Federation can helped many females like Oriaku Njoku (an

abortion patient) to pay for these procedures. This will help me write my paper because it will let

the audience know that not any woman can afford to have an abortion.

Lang, Joshua. What Happens to Women Who Are Denied Abortions?

The New York Times, The New York Times, 15 June 2013

Women can be denied to having an abortion. The main reason for this is because they are

too far in their pregnancy. Different states allows an abortion up to what a physician considers

viability. Other states can set their own time limit. A lady names S. went to a clinic, ready to

have an ultrasound. The technician said that she was a little further along and estimated that she

was nearly 20 weeks pregnant, which was too far along for Planned Parenthood clinic. No matter

what she wanted or how it would affect her life, she was going to be a mother to a newborn. This

will help me write my paper because it shows how women can be denied to have an abortion.
